I am planning to buy a CZ rifle very soon, chambered for .17 HMR. However, I do have a few questions about them that I need you guys to answer, because I can't find the answer:

1) I found a CZ 453 that is supposedly chambered for .17 HMR, but on CZ's website it says that the 453 American is only meant for .22 LR and .17 HM2. Is this really .17 HMR? Here's the link: http://www.ableammo.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=9935_13987_14246_16479&products_id=91290

2) Would I need to buy a Picatinny or Weaver rail for mounting a scope? I can't see if it comes with one in the pictures.

3) If that CZ 453 American is really chambered for .17 HMR, where can I get magazines for it? Will 452 magazines work? I've only found one place that sells .17 HMR 452 magazines anymore, and even they only sell the polymer ones. Can anyone find some metal .17 HMR 452 magazines anywhere?

4) Is the CZ 453 American more accurate than a Ruger 77/17 VMBBZ both completely stock? I'd be using whichever I get for target/practice shooting at 50-205 yards.

5) Does the CZ 453 perform better than the CZ 452?

Once again, I've searched and can't find the answers anywhere. All answers are greatly appreciated.

1. The CZ 453 is offered in .17HMR in the American and Varmint configuration. CZ-USA's website is out of date.

2. No, the rifle has dovetailed receiver. However CZ-USA does offer a Weaver style rail that fits over the dovetail.

3. Magazines and rifles can be purchased from Whittaker Guns;
http://www.whittakerguns.com/

4. Couldn't say for sure. I had a Ruger 77/.22mag. Sold it. Still have 5 CZ452's;).

5. Only difference is the single set trigger. Performance would depend on if the shooter can do better with a single set trigger.

Note; You will have to call Whittakers. They do not have a web store, nor do they answer e-mails. Very good folks with whom to do business however.

Thanks for your response, but I can't find the magazines on whittakerguns.com. Do they not list them online?

Also, are there two different magazines in these two guns? And if so, what type is each?:

Thanks again for your answers.

You would have to call them for any accessories as they are not listed on the website.

In your picture the top rifle appears to have the .22Mag/.17HMR magazine.
The lower rifle appears to have the .22LR/.17HM2 magazine. From the appearance, this magazine is the polymer mag in .22LR/.17HM2.

so, the .17HMR/.22MAG magazine juts further out of the stock than the .22LR/.17HM2 magazine does? Is there anywhere that I can buy a mag for .17HMR that doesn't extend so far out of the stock?

1. Yes.

2. Not that I'm aware of. However, some of the CZ shooters at RFC have shortened their mags. This reduces mag capacity to three rounds, I believe. Do a search here for the magazine shortening;
