I lost my Trapper Nelson Pack Board. It was made by Pioneer in Vancouver in the '60's. I understand others in the Pacific N/W made this type of board as well. I'm amazed that they are no longer avaiable.
Does anyone know if they are available anywhere???
I can't find any kind of pack frame at all. What do others do to pack out meat???
I'm desperate because of the loss of my pack board.

Google: trapper nelson packboard............ you'll come up with lots of history and a few who say they have them....I never bought one, but an old mountain man I grew up around built one for me out of 2x2's and some spare canvas that he hemmed and put grommets in to lace onto the frame. He used leather straps, which I updated to padded straps years later...It eventuyally rotted and I replaced it with a more modern aluminum frame with a hip belt that supported the weight on the hips rather than on the shoulders., but I mised the feel and the smell of wet canvas and wood and leather...it seemed those smells and that of the horse under me were as enjoyable part of the hunt as anything else....Good luck in finding your memories!
I haven't seen a Trapper Nelson in a long, long time.
Pack frames these days are made from aluminum and nylon, usually, and are lighter and work just as well, if not better. The hard part is to find pack frames without the packbag attached, but there are a few places that carry them. A camping/backpacking supply place is where you want to look.
Cabela's sells one. Campmor would be another place to check.

I had checked Cabela's web site but I guess I asked the wrong question. Found it.
Thanks.
