Hi

Can annyone give me more info on this rifle?

I have spent 3 days searching online and still can't find annything.

It is a winchester model 52 .22 l rifle with bull barrel, 1/4'' stepped in crown single shot rifle.

It was produced in 1973 and has a serial number: E 1246XX

Trigger is exceptionally fine and stock was painted by previous owner.

Does this rifle have a Safety? How does one release the bolt?

Anny or other info would be respected.

Around 1950,I did a lot of shooting with a Model 52,in outdoor matches.It's a great rifle;very accurate.
I will attempt to scan the 1951 Stoeger catalog page.

What you have is a Winchester 52E, the last in the series of model 52s. The rifle should have a safety on the right side just ahead of the bolt handle. If not, see if there is a cutout in the stock where the safety should normally be.

To release the bolt, start with the bolt closed and uncocked. Push the trigger forward and hold it there. Open the bolt and withdraw it from the receiver. To install the bolt, pull the trigger to the rear and hold it there. Align and slide the bolt into the receiver. Note: you may have to depress the sear so that it will clear the bolt.

E models are relatively rare as Winchester was having financial difficulties, production was reduced, and shooters were showing interest in Remingtons and Anschutz. Still, your rifle was made with great care and is one of the best match rifles produced in the U.S. during that era.
