I am curious about one thing and I wanted to get ask you guys that have a lot more knowledge about the subject than I do. I know that you can shoot .44 specials out of a .44 mag.(either rifle or revolver). What I am curious about is if over the long run shooting a lot of .44 specials out of a .44 mag damage the chamber? I've heard that if done enough Gases would erode the chamber.

As long as you clean it regularly there should not be a problem. Powder build up ahead of the shorter 44 special case could cause hard chambering for a 44 mag cartridge if it is allowed to build up. I have probably fired 10 times as many 44 specials thru my 44 mag revolvers as 44 mags without any problems.

No. This was a problem many years ago with .22 shorts, but the ammunition of the time had corrosive/erosive primers (some old-type priming mixtures contained ground glass) and people tend to never clean a .22.

Using normal loads with the .44 Special, the simple answer is "No". If you maintain the chamber properly removing any .44 Special powder/lead residue, you will not have a problem chambering .44 Magnum cartridges either.

If you reload you also can just load to 44 special velocities on the 44 mag brass. I've done that for years.

I was given a bunch of .44 spls by my brother-in-law and was letting my daughter shoot them in the SBH at the range today because of the lesser recoil. She liked them. She handed the gun back to me and I had trouble chambering the .44 mags. Just needs a good cleaning I know, but that's a lot of build up from only 18 rounds. Must be some really dirty powder.
I switch off with both cartridges and have experienced zero problems.

You can shoot them in a .444 to, but hand loading to lower levels in the proper case the gun is chambered for eliminates any and all problems. Give the cases away to someone with a .44 special.

It's may main CCW carry even though I get qualifiied to carry a semi auto. I get the Semi auto certification so I don't have to requalify if in case I find a Semi auto I really like to carry. And it has the added beneifit of not getting hasseled by cops when I take my semi auto .22 lr with me to the range.
