So now that harvest time is well on it's way, the coyotes are out mousing in full force. They are also teaching their little one's to mouse.

Me and a buddy killed five in about an hour, just staying around the combines near dusk.

Our harvest is later than yours, though folks down in the canyons have started cutting hay. The young coyotes are dumber than posts, but don't take long to wise up if they make it to the first winter.

I'm going to try to do some calling with the grand daughters this week. Get some time in before they have to go back to school. Got to go down to Lewiston this week and get their hunting licenses anyway.

I usually hunt in the mornings rather than the evenings, but I'll give that a try.

Was out shooting in a load for the Whelen and came across a family of yotes. The 204 always goes to the range with me. (Just down the road from you)

I guess I have a different take on things, I raise sheep and hay and do a little work for other farmers on the side. I don't have a problem with coyotes at all. Deer and elk on the other hand are almost to the point of being a problem. Elk ruined a good amount of stand up peas I harvested this season and elk droppings in the bulk tank can result in some pretty serious dockage at the elevator. Voles and mice are thick here as well, I've used buckets of poison and don't even dent the population. I've had as many as four coyotes following the tractor as I cultivate in the fall grabbing voles I unearth. In all the years I've raised sheep I have never had a problem with coyotes, they stay on their side of the fence and my sheep, for the most part, stay on mine. I just think it's silly to shoot something that spends it waking hours killing mice, I guess if they started going after my sheep I would have to rethink my position.
