To all the hunters and outdoorsmen, I would like to let everyone know that my dad, Don Lewis, passed away on July 25, 2008. He was a hunter that wrote, not a writer that hunted. He loved rifles and the outdoors, and he spent the past 45 years telling us about it. He was still writing a hunting column for our local newspaper, along with articles in Varmint Hunter and Precision Shooting. He wrote for Pennsylvania Game News for over 35 years; although he was not able to hunt last winter, he drilled both my brothers on what they saw and where they hunted. He was a life-time member of the NRA and POWA. I was the black sheep; a vegetarian and a terrible shot, but we were a team. We spent many hours together at his computer. I want to thank all the people over the years that sent letters, questions and good wishes. He was a great sportsman, and an even greater dad. Thank you all.

Condolences to you. My grandparents moved to Maine in the early seventies and started getting a group of Pennsylvania deer hunters come up for 1 week to deer hunt Maine. One of them gave them a subscription to Penn Game New's. I would get shipped to Maine for 3 week's every summer and alway's enjoyed reading your fathers writings.

Carol,
Sorry to hear about your loss. Your dad's work will be missed.
Since the last post is now a couple of weeks old, I will move this thread to the Publications forum so those discussing articles and writers have a chance to see it.

Sorry to hear about your loss, Carol. As I am writting this post; I am holding a 1975 Edition of Gun Digest, inwhich your Farther wrote a very interesting article on various rifles he used to hunt wood chucks. The article is on page 123 of the '75 edition. I read where he had his first experience with the .220 Swift inwhich he said: " I was so transported I shot several rounds just to see the muzzle blast!" Don, was a very good writer and will be missed.

Carol,
I'm very sorry to hear about your dad. His column was always the first one to which I would turn. Having subscribed since the late '60s, I was dissappointed when it was announced he would not be writing every month. Thanks for sharing the news with us. May God give you peace and comfort.

So sorry to hear of your loss.:(
I will miss reading Don's entries in the PA Game News. He was a "local boy" (whom I never met........but did buy a progressive Hornady press from him through a mutual friend) and I always felt a little connection because of it.
