View Full Version : Hunting and Global Warming?????

When I was in tropical Africa just 600miles south of the equator, the Africans and Europeans as well as the Americans there said, "it has been the coldest winter in years in Africa," (it is winter there being south of the equator). I have heard of other reports in Europe, India and Russia from friends of mine that this has been a cooler summer in memory. Well that is fine with me because the cooler the fall the better I have found hunting in most cases. Also when I was in Africa I heard some real cool news. You know that the Gorilla is supposed to be on the endangered list. Well, some researchers found in the Congo at least a group of Gorillas that number in their estimate, 10,000 and they said that this is a conservative estimate. Oh the hump back is not on the list anymore. Isn't it amazing how the Lord designed the earth and it's survival. It was not an accident that earth just came along from mindless nothing to something. It is a world of design and that means there is a designer and that also means that man being finite does not have the ability to know all the variables and that is why he is not able to tweak this global warming thing. I hope it does get cooler like it was when I was young. I love breaking ice on puddles during hunting season in South Mississippi. Just some thoughts.

I'm a little sceptical of climate change as well . and as for wildlife here in Australia no one around here can ever remeber som much wildlife , native and feral . When i was a kid (early 70's) if you saw a kangeroo you would be skiting about it all week , now i shoot over 100 a year . Also seeing a lot more little native animals that were never seen before like platapusses and sugergliders and stuf like that .

If this globale warming is actually hapening , then signing keyoto protacols and such will mean didly squot . Basically we are adicted to coal and oil and burning fosel fuels is liberating carbon that has been traped in the ground for millions of years and puting it into the atmosphear .

I just hope things cool some no matter what the reason because I like hunting in cool weather. I am not myself going to get off in all the supposed science that is observable only in a closed system due to our limitations and then try and assume in my gratuitous arguments that I have discovered the truth that actually encompasses the whole. What arrogance on the part of the intellectual world to assume that science can define the matter conclusively. I just wrote what I wrote to encourage us as hunters that I believe there are good times ahead for us and our sport. And that the earth has a way of healing itself and making adjustments because it is a living world with magnificent design.

yer I agree that most intellectuals talk as much out there rear end as there mouth and that the earth seems to heal itself prity darned good . As for getting cooler here in eastern Australia we have been haveing the hotest dryest priod ever for about the last 5 yrs . Haveing said that been really cold here the last week , rain wind and snow , which is good , this drought might be nearing an end .
the point being is that some yrs are hot and some yrs are cold and all we can do is deal with what the good lord sends us .
thats very interesting about the gorilas . And i do believe that game is definatly increasing despite what the tree hugers will tell ya . Only dark cloud on the horizon is coming from politics but we want go there

My reason for skepticism about global warming: they can't accurately predict what the weather will be like TOMORROW. How much credibility can a prediction about ten years from now have?
I'm also not saying it's impossible. There have been some seriously hot summers lately. Maybe I didn't pay much attention when I was young, but I don't recall entire weeks where it was in the triple digits here in St. Louis. *This* summer has been mild, yes. But, as has been said, some years are hot, some are cold. It's just that we've been having more of the hot ones the last several years.
Even if Global Warming is bunk, though, reducing the amount of fossil fuels we use is a good thing.
And, the way the earth is going to heal itself from our abusive presence is likely to be the sort of thing that sees our species extinct.
OZY, what do you do with a kangeroo after you shoot it? are they good to eat?

the national parks and wildlife will give landholders permits to kill a certain number of roos . but you are not alowed to use them . Apsolutly criminal in my opion . they are a real pest here plague proportions . I do eat them though , big ones are to gamey for my likeing but the little ones are ok . I grind a lot , makes good mince very lean . Apart from that use them for dog food .
there are profesional shooters about that shoot comercaily for human comsuption , pet food and skins . Kangeroo learther is the strongest leather in the world , most of the best running shoes use it .
I also make my own stock whips out of roo skins . makes the best whips , aparently the last whip used in the Indiana Jones moovie was madse out of roo .

I agree only good can come from burning less fosel fuels . The point i was makeing is that , until we actually run out of these fuels , we will continue to use them and hence continue to liberate CO2 into the atmosphear .
So if what the likes of Al Gore is true then its time to prepar for WW3 . I believe the human race will survive no matter what but there might be just a whole heap less of us , so keep your powder dry .
Like to make another point , these suposed experts will show graths of how tempritures have risen over the last 100yrs or so . But the thing is the only places they have reliable records of 100yrs ago is the big cities . Cities make and trap there own heat with polution and concreat etc so it stands to reason that temps in cities are showing rises
