I had a friend stop by today wanting to sell a winchester 88. It was given to him for some work he did. He is not a gun person and just want to get rid of it. It is in fair condition. The bore looks great and the action is smooth. There some tiny rust spots here and there. The wood is showing its age and there is a piece broke out of the bottom of the stock. I guess what I am saying is it is a shooter not a collector. I am not really looking for a 308 but I don't want to pass on a deal. What is a fair price for both parties?

I shot a 1959 model 88, .308 today, my Dad bought it brand new, hopefully he will get his deer and elk with that gun this fall BTW he is 85. I also own one made in 57.
On your rifle I would look to the auction sites but it may be hard to find one in comparable condition. I know a little about 88 prices but am no expert. It seems to me that the Blue Book is pretty close as to what they seem to sell for online ( last I checked) or at the shops around this area which is All I can draw on.

Like marlin says, I'd check out a gun shop or pawn shop and see if they have a blue book. That will give you a ball park figure and usually it lists several prices for different amounts of wear.

Take a peek on gunbroker.com and cabela's gun liberary. The m88 308 go's for around 400.00 to 1000.00 depending on what shape it is in. yours looks like a pre 1964 and that is good. the win m88 .358 sells from around 1000.00 to 4000.00.

If you decide to shoot it I would be carefull with it. There seems to be some annecdotal evidence that the 88's can develope safety problems. I've read at least three accounts of people having ad's with the safety on.
