Has anyone got any info yet on the Mossberg 464 lever gun ? They're made in America , which is important to me. All I've seen is what they have on their ( Mossberg ) web-site. Has anyone here actually bought one or shot one? I'm looking for a lever gun, and this looks interesting.

I believe a couple of Forum members have bought them. Reports I've read so far have indicated that the shoot OK, the only real complaints being cosmetic issues -- cheap wood, so-so fitting. I felt that the one I handled was not a rifle I'd pay the retail price for, although it'd probably shoot as well as any other leveraction carbine.
Some years ago , Mossberg made another lever gun. Although it looked like a marlin somewhat, it operated quite different. So this is the second go round for this company. The few early ones I had any hand on , seemed very strong and made well .I've read both pros and cons on this newer version. One person that bought one was very dissapointed . But several others had geat comments. They all seem to like the scope mounts being part of the rifle . I like what I see though.

Having only handled one, I was wholly unimpressed. With its engineering shortcuts and quality of assembly, personally, it appears that a used Marlin or Winchester would be a much better use of funds.

That pretty well sums up my reaction to the one I've handled. My thought was, "I could buy almost two decent used Marlins for what this would cost me, and have at least twice the fun."

I handled one at a gun store and it sure as heck feels like the good old 94. The action is smoother than Marlins! I am getting one next month. And pisgah, some people don't actually like the Marlin look, as I don't either.

I looked at a couple at Gander Mountain. Mosseburg wont be a'gittin' none of my money for that abomination.

You might want to hop over to the Leverguns.com forum and do a search on the Mossberg. Mixed reviews, but in general not-so-good.
Decent early-'80s 94s and countless Marlin 336s are out there, still at good prices, and either is a better rifle than the Mossberg, IMO.

I wanted something that I could actually use, so I don't want a collectors item and I have never liked the look of the Marlin 336s so that leaves the Mossberg. Once I get it I will let you guys know how it is. In the mean time, read the review that Kansas has from Gunblast. The parts did not feel loose and even though the wood is birch, it is not that big of a deal to me because I am just looking for something to use not a heirloom. Thank you for your advice though.

Would like to hear what you think after you get to shoot it. It looks O.K. to me. I'm with you, I never liked the looks of the Marlin either. To each his own. The Marlins are popular.

I just got the 464 and it is GREAT!!! It shot just fine and it feels great and it is the softest shooting 30-30 that I have ever shot. I did not have any problems with the extractor! It is so awsome!! Get one! If you have any more questions, post them and I will answer. Thanks!

Did you get the straight stock or the pistol grip version?? I like the look of the pistol gripped version, but so far I've only seen the straight in person....

Just got it sighted in with iron sights. It worked the best with 150 grain Powerpoints at 100 yards. 2 in. group! I have not tried 170 grains in it yet though. It is really not meant to be a tackdriver however. as long as I can keep all of my rounds in the size of a pie plate I am fine. Anymore questions let me know!

LAO10855 is the Serial Number. Took it to the range for some reloads. Best group 170 grain iron sights was 1.5 in.

I guess yours is different from the dozen or so that I have handled. Haven't ran alot of rounds through any one of them for "wear in", but though they felt well, they all were unimpressive in the action's feel. Most of them were uncomfortable to operate and difficult to work the lever while remaining shouldered during repeat firing.
Just my $0.02

I have had to BREAK IN quite a bit to make it smooth. I have cycled the lever literally thousands of times vigorously. Like I said, I've also had a lot of rounds through mine now. I went through the internals and broke all the sharp edges, smoothing things up substantially. It's sort of like a Puma 92, needs a little lovin' to bring out the sweetness.
