One of my favorite "gun writers", has favored us with an appropriate piece in this issue of the American Rifleman.
I say appropriate because of the growing popularity of BIG handguns. So many of us seem to imagine our abilities to be so much greater than they are. The article won't help those who can't read or understand what they are reading, but they probably won't keep the "big gun" long enough to break it in anyway.
Welcome back Ross.

Yup - saw that and greatly appreciated seeing his views. Think this might be the 2nd or 3rd month he's been in the AR magazine.
Like you say - Welcome back!
Interesting article....and suspect it wouldn't help the firearm companies sell a lot of the .475's? I particularly liked his advice on the number of rounds he shoots with the full loads and how to prepare/practice for the full loads. I know some folks can handle it much better than I, but I found with the 360 gr and 1400 in the .454, 30 rounds was just about enough. With the increased .475 recoil, 10 sounds like a good recommendation.
But with that said, I'm going to have to get one....and based on some very interesting posts on the forum, I'll get a BFR.

I like Ross' writings too.
What some younger shooters and outdoors types might not be aware of is that Seyfried was personal friends with both Elmer Keith and Jeff Cooper, both of whom thought rather highly of him.
When he won the IPSC championships, I seem to recall he was shooting a standard Pachmayr combat special, which would be considered almost a "Stock" Gun in todays action shooting games, IE no optic sights, no compensator.
I also like Seyrfried's sticking to his views on things like optics having no place on an autoloader or revolver, etc....
I don't know why, maybe it is professional jealosy among editors or something, but it almost seems as if the second generation of great gun writers, men like Seyfried, Chuck Taylor and others just are not getting the respect they deserve, and now we have a third generation of authors who are.
