I finally received my order of Beartooth 45-70 ,405 gr. GCLFNGC bullets.The label indicates they are sized .460.
My rifle is a new 1895 Marlin Cowboy.I tried slugging the barrel and got about .457.
Now I have a question.Is it safe to shoot a .460 bullett in a barrel that I beleive to be .457?
Does anyone have any experience in shooting these exact bullets in the new Marlin 1895 45-70 CowBoy?

Make up a dummy round and see if it will chamber. If so, no problem. The 0.457" measurement is the smallest constriction in the bore, not necessarily the dimension for the entire length.

With Jacketed bullets I would be concerned but since your shooting lead cast bullets you should have no problems. As with any different bullet start your loads at the starting load(Grs) and work up! Only problem I can see is maybe they''ll lead the barrel up some. A .459 or .458 might be better.

Marshal I think makes his bullets pretty hard on the BN scale so it might not be a problem. Good shooting!:)

I think you'll be okay even when using heavier than factory-type pressures. Even though Beartooth bullets are alloyed pretty hard, they're no way near a jacketed slug. I used to shoot a whole bunch of .310" bullets made with straight Linotype in several different .30-06's and a .30-30. Never had the slightest problem up to an estimated 2400 fps.
