to hoard or "stock up" on reloading components that may or may not get taxed into oblivion.
Demand has exceeded supply.

Where are you at in MT?
Keep an eye on the gun show schedule:

There are usually primers there.

All this Panic Buying, going on, is only going to make things worse. The manufactures are no doubt, going to take advantage by charging higher prices. If everyone would just sit tight and cool off, and go back to a normal buying mode, I am certain things will return to normal. For all we know the Firearm & Ammo companies might have made a deal, with Obama, to scare people into buying their products. Thus creating a demand on a "Tanking" industry allowing them to justify raising prices on Ammo, primers, powder, ect. on the fact they said they can't keep up with demand when they can just hire more workers, to produce enough to meet the demand.

Was able to get to my local Bass Pro yesterday. The reloading section was almost cleaned out of components. No primers, three bottles of powder, limited amounts of bullets and cases. They still had loading presses and die sets. The rifle racks and handgun counter looked normal but there were waiting lines to be served. Yes, these are not good times.:(

My greatest concern is that a lot of these people buying reloading compondents, and trying to reload without knowing what reloading is or demands. I am afraid we're going to see and read about firearms being blown up with injuries to the shooter, due to incorrect reloading. Also it is rather odd that the reloading dies and presses aren't keeping up with the sales of powder, primers, and cases. Could a lot of these individuals, buying up components, to resale at a huge price???

You hit the nail on the head Davers... Seeing cases of primers going for $400 and whats worse is idiots are buying them at that price..

I know it is really bad, and makes a lot of us Handloaders angry to see what is happening. I personally would like to see things return to normal. where I am living, there is NO stores, in this small town, that sells reloading compondents. So I am forced to order powder or primers from Midway or Cabalas, and have to pay a hazardous fee + regular shipping costs which doubles the cost for a pound of powder or a carton or primers.

I know of one guy in New Mexico that has amitted to having over 100K primers of various sorts, plus a couple of hundred pounds of various powders. And, this guy shoots a couple of boxes of shells per year. THAT, is what is going wrong with the market right now!

This is probably true, but then someone goes and says something like this:
For all we know the Firearm & Ammo companies might have made a deal, with Obama, to scare people into buying their products.
This is how rumors start, and a couple days from now someone will be reporting this as fact on another board somewhere.
The "for all we know" stuff is useless speculation. Like this:
For all we know, flaming blue turds will fall from the sky and set the earth ablaze.
It's senseless.
If you really want to know what's going on, call the manufacturers. I made a list of questions and called ATK a couple of weeks ago. There was no bad news from the lady I talked to. People are just buying more then they (CCI and Federal) can make, and they are making more now than a year ago.
We just have to wait for everyone to get done being scared about nothing.

So then you agree that we should all spread the primers around equally?
The primers will be back, the people that paid exhorbitant prices will get burned and you'll be enjoying shooting again in no time. Yes, people are panicing, but lets not castigate them, we've all done it at one time or another.

Nope In Kalispell.....been lookin in lots of different sites and NO one has primmers....midway not even, I guess I can hit the basterd over the head with my 454 causll! Don't know what kind of carps comin down but don't like it!!!

So is the real problem the fact that somebody's buying them while they can, or that they did it before you did. There is absolutely nothing wrong with trying to guess the next thing to invest in.
I've got primers in everything except small rifle, and I guess I missed that boat for a while. It happens.
PS, who's paying $400 a case for primers? I'll sell one of my cases for that.

This is pretty much all a lie. There are ZERO facts to support any of these statements.

One point: It is common knowledge that the current administration has proposed a renewal of the Assult Weapons Ban and that the attorney general has repeatedly made public comment in this regard and that the secretary of state has said we need an Assult Weapons Ban to help mexico. These are facts beyond dispute. No comment as to the rest of it.

The administration, yes. The Speaker of the House and the Senate Majority Leader both have said they oppose any effort to reinstate the AWB. I am fairly amazed at this. Was kind of stunned to hear it! (I didn't vote for these people, so have no stake in writing the above.)
Here are a couple of sources:

Folks, remember what happens to threads that turn political.
Talk about primer shortage (original post) all you want, but leave the politicking out of it.

There is good reason for the speaker and majority leader to steer clear of this issue they can count. So what appears to be something of a miracle is just good old fashioned common sense. Unfortunately, I expect to see them both change their tunes. We shall see. But as always, it's best to leave politics at the door even though the shortage is a direct consequence of "politics."

Cabelas has all primers in stock as of a few days ago when I checked. You pay a few bucks for them but if your out it's better than not having any.

That's all well & good, but do you really want to pay "Double" for a box of primers or a pound of Powder? I remember just a few short years ago, one didn't have this "Haz-Mat." fee slapped on their order on top of regular shipping charges. This Haz-Mat. charge is one big rip-off. UPS & others ship other things far more dangerious than a box of primers or powder. They don't charge this fee when they ship a box of loaded ammo either.

How do you figure that it's double? Their prices are similar to other internet outlets. The hazmat charge is $20, but you can order 10's of thousands of primers and many pounds of powder, and they only charge the $20 fee once for each order.

Say what you want about Nevada's senator, but he is still a Nevadan, from the real West. Most of you don't remember or know that he voted AGAINST the AWB both times. Pelosi has another agenda, of course.

Actually, it's $23 for each 50# of mixed primers and powder, if they follow UPS charges.

The $20-23 Haz. fee, per order of 50 LBS & under is all fine & well, But I don't need to order 50 pounds of powder. Right now I used all my IMR-4064 powder reloading my .308 with 150 grain bullets. I have 1/2 pound of WW-748 and 3/4 pound of IMR-4320, as well as pound of H-380, but I normally use IMR-4064 for reloading my .308. I am also down to about 300 primers (Large Rifle) but have plenty of bullets. Got a little under one pound of IMR-4350 for reloading my .270. Never thought I'd see the day where buying reloading supplies would be such an effort.
