OK guys. I decided to go for a progressive and got the rcbs pro 2000 auto index. I've had nothing but problem after problem. Jammed on spent primers that didn't go down the tube. I'm told that a power punch decap pin is available and will fix this. APS primer system wouldn't advance the primers. I opened up the assembly, and I've got a plastic tooth missing on the little carrier. Shell plate won't advance all the way on total loaded rounds 21 and up. I assume that it's out of time, and they need to send me the adjustment guages mentioned in the book?

Is this stuff normal? Does the APS system work on a progressive, and/or are there any alternatives that can still be used on this press? Timing I can adjust when they send me the stuff. Decap primers I can fix with a power punch. What about the priming. Has anyone been successful, or should I just decap and prime by hand or on a single stage?

i dont have the pro 2000 but i do have the piggyback convertions for the rockchucker my first words of advise is put down the hammer as much as youd like to beat the **** out of it dont just walk away for a while and reread the manual i had to read mine for the piggybacks over and over dont force it to fit itshould run smoth if it dont look for the bind they are a *&^%( to setup but worth it in the end wouldnt trade my piggy backs for nothin

I've been useing the RCBS Pro 2000 manual indexing press for about 8 months now reloading 9mm Luger 357 mag & 45 auto with very few problems.

Try seting the decaping pin a little deeper.

APS primer system wouldn't advance the primers.
You will have to replace that missing plastic tooth. Call the RCBS toll free number and they will be happy to send you some free of charge. The only problem I've ever had with the APS System is some corn cob cleaning media getting in there and stooping it from advancing. Other than this the APS system works great.

I can't help you with the auto indexing problem but the people at RCBS are are very helpful and should be able to get you through this.
Don"t get discouraged the Pro 2000 is a excellent press.

It's not really worth having a progressive for handgun ammo if it won't decap and prime. (Match rifle loading is another matter and can require more hand steps for maximum accuracy.) It is very unusual for a properly adjusted decapper stem in a sizing die to fail to decap unless the ammo has crimped primers, as in military cases. Those can require manual decapping the first time you do it, then the primer pocket crimps have to be swaged or reamed out, after which the problem is gone.
