View Full Version : Trouble with .45 ACP & Lee Load Master

I've used a Lee Pro 1000 for several years without this problem but since I started using the Load Master for all my pistol loading I've run into a problem belling the case mouth of .45 ACP ctgs. I have the powder die screwed in touching the shell plate and I've checked that the belling insert is the correct one and the AutoDisk powder measure is complete and is screwed down as far as it will go. But I still can only get a very minimal bell. (And I mean barely able to insert a bullet) I've checked will Lee and they're sending me a new belling insert for the powder die but I'm not hopeful that that is the problem.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? I can't imagine anything other than a too short belling insert to be the problem but then that would be unusual since the same die worked before. I've cleaned and checked everything but I'm still stumped. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

mcg6637,

Personally I would install all dies again from scratch.

Checking everything as you go along.

I recommend you check out the following link, there is a wealth of information on the LM machine.

If it is anything like the Lee 1000, and probably most other progressives, only one die should be touching the shell holder, and that would be the sizer die. All others cannot touch (only one can touch and the shell plate will stop at the lowest one). Back off your powder and expanding die until it doesnt' touch and see if that makes a difference.
