Hi, been going through some of the threads here, but havn't seen any mention of Uberti lever actions. Are they held in such disdain that no one buys them? My very first lever was a Uberti in the late 1980's in 44-40. It was a fun rifle and very accurate. The one I have my eye on at the moment is one of their 1876 Centenary models. They come in some unusual calibers, but I would think that a 45-70 cartridge would chamber in the 45-75 model. I'm Guatemala at the moment and will be for a while yet, so I can't check things out at a local gun shop.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Personally, I think that they might be fine, but they are just way too expensive.:(

The primary reason you see little mention of Uberti lever actions is because the majority are imported/sold by Cimarron, Taylor's, Navy Arms, and others and are usually referred to in the press by those names instead of Uberti.

And no, the .45-70 cannot be fired in a .45-75. The .45-75 is a bottleneck cartridge based on the .50-110 case and shorter than the .45-70. The other calibers the 1976 is available in, .40-60 and .45-60, are based on the .45-70 case, shortened, and can be made from that case.

You can compare the .45-70 and .45-75 with these links to AmmoGuide. They aren't interchangeable.

Hi there. thanks for that. I'd really like a 45-70 Winchester. While I'm right-handed, I'm left eye dominant and shoot rifles left handed, and the top eject is about as ambidexterous as they come, aside from being a really great looking rifle. I guess I'll wait until I'm in a better position to do some serious searching for a Winchester 1886 repro.
Thanks again,
Trev

The only thing stopping me from purchasing Uberti's 1873 Winchester repro is the price. Beautifully made rifle though.

I have a Uberti '73 imported by Navy Arms. It's my Cowboy Action Shooting rifle. I absolutely love it and think it is made very well. I've never read anything bad about them either, and would absolutely recommend them - at least based on the one that I have.

Mine was the 1866 Yellowboy. A whole lot of fun to shoot and like I said, very accurate. Used to get a lot of attention in Australia where there weren't quite so many. Maybe Uberti will pick up on the 1886 line sometime in the near future. Have fun guys. - Trev

I'm right handed, left eye dominant also. I've had no problems shooting Win. 94 AE or Marlins left handed.
