I was thinking of getting a Rossi 92 in 44mag, 16 inch barrel. Anybody have one of these and care to comment on it. I would like to use it for deer and bear hunting with shots under 100 yds. Can the rifle handle hot loads from buffalo bore?

I have a Rossi Puma in .44-40 WCF and it functions fine for me. Not really sure if hot loads from buffalo bore would work in your .44 Magnum. I've never tried them.

I bought one recently. Its a trapper version 16 inch barrel. It groups realy well however some how the wrong front sight got on this thing or the rifle just shoots realy high. Its hitting about a foot and a half high with the rear sight all the way down. I called Legacy and they are replacing the front sight free of charge. Cant wate to get it. Looks like its gonna be a game getter.

I have to answer your question in pieces, since although I have both a 16" bbl'd .44 mag levergun I hunt with, and a 16" bbl Rossi 92, what I don't have is a Rossi 92 chambered in .44 Mag.
So:
[a Rossi 92 in 44mag, 16 inch barrel. Anybody have one of these and care to comment on it.] -
My 16" Rossi 92's are chambered in .45 Colt and .357 Mag, and I find them both to be smooth-operating, fast handling, hunting rifles.
The .45 is a new LSI, and the .357 is a new BrazTech, both models had the bolt top safety (I "disappeared" them), and I've mounted peep sights on both.
They both shoot within 3" @ 100yds with factory JSP ammo.
[I would like to use it for deer and bear hunting with shots under 100 yds.] -
My 16" .44 Mag rifle (a Marlin 1894P) has easily taken large Maine whitetails, with single shots, out to 125 yards.
[Can the rifle handle hot loads from buffalo bore?] -
My .45 Colt / Rossi 92 easily handles, and groups good, Cor-Bon +P JSP hunting ammo, w/o any issues whatsoever, so I would think one in .44 would also digest any SAMMI/factory ammo in that chambering.

I have a Rossi 92 in .357 that is dead accurate at 100 yards. We're talkin 2 to 3 inches easily. They really are nice guns. As far as the .44 for hunting I have no idea since I don't really hunt :/
