Any of you guys shoot or own one ? My brother about has me convinced to get a Lever gun. I love the .338 calibers, so I'm considering the .338 MX. Then later to add a .338 Federal and .338 RUM to my collection. But for now, I want to know about the Marlin version.

I like mine. Recoil is similar to a 270. I have only got to shoot it once but it shot slightly over one inch off the back of my truck. Looking forward to working up some heavy bullet loads.

I like the looks, and sounds of it, but I worry about very limited bullet selection, and the availabity of brass down the road. Most .338 bullets are designed with much faster cartridges in mind, and the gummy bullets are pretty expensive for not being of premium construction.

I plan on using standard bullets as well as gummy tips. I can load two rounds in the gun with standard pointed bullets. Since I have hunted with single shots alot, two bullets seems like a lot.

I got a mule deer with mine a week ago, marginal hit but results were great. She didn't go more than 20 feet and it only took out one lung. Exit was about the size of a half dollar and major blood trail. Mine is very accurate, 2 in one hole at 100yd with one out less than an inch has been the norm. Mine is the MXLR and comes up like a perfectly fitted shotgun. DP
