I have an older Herters case trimmer.Does anyone know if any of the pilots from another brand of trimmer will fit it?
Does your trimmer look like a small lathe? With a crank handle on the end of the cutter shaft making up one side, and a collet at the other end? And both end assemblies are screwed to an aluminum stand?
If so, the trimmer is actually a Forster, with Herters' name on it. I have one like that, and I've used the Forster pilots and other accessories with no problems.
Be advised that Forster recently came out with a hand held neck turning tool that uses pilots, too, and they are NOT the same, or interchangeable with the tool I believe you have.

That's exactly the one I have.I looked on Forster's site and the original case trimmer looks exactly like it.I didn't know if the pilot shank was the same.I'll order what I need now. Thanks

Thanks for the reply.I had emailed Forster. Here is their reply:
"To: oldreloader@hotmail.com
Thanks for the inquiry.
Our collets and pilots should fit the old Herter’s trimmer. We obviously cannot give a 100% “will fit” guarantee since we never made that trimmer and would not have any control over their tolerances or quality.
The shank diameter on our pilot is .186”.
Have a good day.
Dee"
Dee probably wasn't born when Forster made that trimmer for Herters. They are EXACTLY alike.

My Herters trimmer dates from about 1964 or '65. I believe that Forster and Herters were both located in Minnesota at the time.
I can say for sure that cutter pilots, neck turner pilots, neck turning attachments, and collets from Forster fit perfectly.
No doubt you're right about the age question, oldreloader- that's going back a ways.
