I decided that I needed a small rifle rack by my reloading / cleaning bench for temporary storage of my leverguns while I'm working on or cleaning them. I had some scrap 1x6 so I decided to try my hand at one. It cost me nothing as I had everything left over from previous projects. It sits in a small space only 13" wide, out of the way but it gets my rifles up off of the floor where they use to sit leaning against the wall unit.

L-R: .357 Rossi 24" rifle, .357 Rossi 20" carbine, and Henry 22lr.

Nice piece of work. That will definately keep you from knocking a rifle over by accident. A carpenter I ain't. I drive nails like lightning. I never hit the same spot twice......

Like jodum said nice piece of work. I'll add that's a fantastic idea for the area where a person cleans there guns. I think I'll steal that idea myself and build one for myself!!

As you can see, space is at a premium in my gun area so I decided to use that little space on the left of the picture. I also made a rack to hold my ARs while I'm cleaning them. It sure is nice not to have them on the floor leaning against the center any more.

Now that is what I call a really nice set of your gun area.

Nice job on the gun area. Is that a receiver sight on the Henry?

Did you have any plans or did you just "wing it"?

You should post plans if you have any and share the wealth!

It looks good!

Nice job on the gun area. Is that a receiver sight on the Henry?Yes, it's a Willams FP-94/36 TK and it works great even with the stock front sight. It's set at 25yds in the picture and the added tick marks are my reference marks for 50, 100, 150, 175, and 200 yds.

It looks good!I simply took some of my 1x6 stock and thought through what I wanted. It's completely screwed together for ease of assembly. Basically, it's sized to fit a specific space so that limited what I could do.

I had 12.5" of width to play with so that left 11" inside the verticals.

Bottom:
* The bottom is 12.5" long
* The inner piece is 11.0" long and has the butt wells cut 1.75" wide, spaced 3.25" apart, cut 1.25" from the back with a 1/2 round end, and then routered.
* The back is just another piece cut 12.5" long and routered at the top

Veritcals:
* The verticals are 27.0" long, cut down to 1.5" wide above the curve to the top
* I routered both sides and the top to round the pieces out.

Top:
* Rear is 12.5" long but ripped down to 4.0" wide and routered on the bottom
* The barrel slots are made from the remaining 1.5" piece cut to 11.0" long then rounded out barrel notches are cut to 0.5" from the back and routered

Assembly is simply centering the inner buttwell piece on the bottom and screwing together. Then screw the verticals on the bottom and finish by screwing the lower back on the verticals. Screw the upper back on to the verticals 1.0" down from the top and then screw the barrel slot piece to the front of the upper back piece.

I used some old textured patio furniture paint I had laying around instead of stain because the wood scraps I built it out of were funky looking and the paint covers all that. To hang it I bent some metal straps open so that I could mount it to the wall using 50lb rated picture hooks.
