Howdy,
I am looking to buy a couple of shooting rests (of the Steady-stix) design for my son and I to use while hunting. We like to hunt deer, hogs, and coyotes from a ground blind. However, we also hunt from elevated deer stands so I do not want an attached bipod on our rifles that would interfere the stand rails.

I am leaning towards the Stoney Point Polecat (I want telescoping legs). Anyone had any experiences with this rest? I also remember seeing another brand, similar in design, that had an extended "cradle" on the rest - there is a little cradle that extends from the joint of the sticks to add more support to the rifle - which I think would help my son out. I saw this particular rest in the Mid-South Shooters Supply Catalog. I have been to their website but cannot find it. I thought Outers or someone similar made it, but I have been unable to find out who it is. Has anyone seen this rest and know who makes it?

Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

Jack

It'd be easy to make some shooting sticks by bolting 2 wooden rods together about 3 inches from one end and they'll open up for a rest and are light to carry.

I actually did that using a pair of 1X2's. Its OK, but it is a fixed height. I would like something that can be compact (i.e. telescoping legs) so I can fit it into a backpack. The rest I made is about 26" long and sticks out of the backpack I use. Thanks,

I have used them. If I understand what you want. "Polecat" is the parent company and makes "Stoney Point" and "Steady Stix". Cabelas sells them both. For a quick look at both goto:

From your description I think you are looking for the Stoney Point Bipod.
Hope this helps, density1
