Mine is a MkII Varmit/Target with heavy stainless action/bbl and a laminated varmit stock. The trigger pull is an even 3 lbs according to my RCBS gauge. I use handloads exclusively, so can't tell you much about the commercial or military stuff.

All of mine shoot very well. I replaced the trigger on all of my MKII's and one of my M77. To me, that is Rugers only downside - the trigger. Other than that, I love them.

i have to agree, the ruger MKII is a great gun, but the trigger needs work.
what brand do you use, Jack? i worked the factory trigger but it's a lot of work, and there is no adjustment for pull weight. i installed a lighter spring and an overtravel stop, along with honing the engagement surfaces, and got great results, but i'll buy a replacement next time.

Monty,
I use the Timney triggers. If "I" can install one and it works - they are pretty much idiot proof. I have them on all my Rugers. I only had difficulty with one I put on my M77VT (Tang Style Safety). I had a fit problem with my receiver which I believe and was told was due to a variance caused by the heavy barrel and the stock and action clearance. I called Timney and asked the girl who answered if I could talk to someone about a technical question (making a foolish assumption that a lady would know little about a trigger on a rifle). She told me that she would be happy to help me. I paused thinking, "OK, I'll ask the question then she will refer me to another person." Man was I all wrong. I asked if she was familiar with the M77. She told me "yes." I said this is a regular M77 not the MKII. She said "Yes, the model with the tang safety." I described the problem and she immediately said that I "had a clearance problem between the sear and receiver which occured on early model M77s." She proceded to tell me how to disassemble the trigger; told me what tools I would need and what size; told me how to check to see if the sear was in fact the problem; and exactly where to stone it. She told me exactly how much material to remove. I was very surprised how much she new about the triggers. I followed her directions and the trigger worked perfectly. I was really impressed and swore that I'll "try" to not make assumptions again.

All of my other triggers dropped in with no problems. I think they are a family owned business. Very nice to deal with. Take care.
