While we're discussing iron sights, what opinions do you guys have about the light gathering fiber optic front sights? I'm thinking about putting one on a sporterized .303 that I use for quick shot brush hunting on running targets. My eyes are getting a little weak and I just can't pick up the brass bead on it any more. (Not in time, anyhow!)

It sounds like kdub has had good results on his muzzleloader. I haven't used them on a rifle, but they work great on my bow!

I have an old Rem 742 -06 that has the optic fiber sights and they work well. I have a see through scope mount setup. I have zeroed the scope for 200 yards and the sights zeroed for 50 yards. Very versatile setup. I don't see why anyone would not want them. Some kinds are not as sturdy as others. The front bead can be broken or knocked off if you are careless.

I'm actually thinking about that myself.

the fiber optics are BRILLIANT. No contest. They are also fragile. Most of them are couched in aluminum. The steel framed ones are better but still weak. Where do we use these things? In the brush of course. You know, where the branches are snapping and scraping all over you and your rifle. Ive lost enough beads to pave a path to the @#$% house. Flourescent paint is cheap, fast, easy and also inexpensive, and darn near as good as the fiber optics. They don't cost much either. Pepe Ray
