anyone have any experinece with the NEF single shots, like the ultra varmit, since it looks like i'm not getting the savage sniper rifle, i was considering a ultra varmit in .223. any opinons on how they shoot, etc. also, does anyone know if the barrels from the handi rifles will swap out with the ultra varmit barrels. also, the handi rifles come in 22 in bull barrel what would be the disadvatage of the 22 over the 24 ultra varmit

12 string-
7 lbs with the 22" barrel. With a good scope will do an honest 3/4" at 100 yds with cheap ammo. I have the one with the synthetic stock. H&R gives you the hammer spur, scope base and a sling ,such as it is. But the main thing that I bought it for is: 1. you don't worry about hurting it, 2. it's accurate.
I keep mine in my truck all the time and at 38" length, it's so easy to pull out and get on target quick.
It's one of those guns that you don't particularly take pride in ownership, but it's a well made piece. very serviceable.
Many hunters down where I hunt bought them for their kids and end up using the gun themselves.
Advantage- If you hunt out of an enclosed 48"x 48" elevated box like a lot of us, you will appreciate the overall length.
Disadvantage- Very thin blueing, keep it well oiled or it's going to rust.
About $239.00
Good Luck

Do a search on the Marlin site. It will take you to the H&R site. It will tell you all you need to know about barrel replacement and wht goes where and how to get it done. Don't forget to ask for the trigger job when you send in your rifle to be fitted with a new barrel. Search the forum there too. It is loaded with good advice.

i did some research at the H&R website and the best advice i got was that if your a bolt fan(like I am) you won't be satisfied with a single shot. So, with a little divine intervention, i found a custom .223 built off of a remington 788 with a free floated douglas signature barrel, Tasco Varmint scope, reworked trigger, for $500, it seemed too good to pass up so its in my gun cabinet, waiting for the snow and wind to stop

Sounds like a great deal. Glad things worked out.
