I'm thinking about picking up a lightweight (5 1/2 pounds or less) 22 Magnum repeater. Will use it primarily as a walkabout close range varmint rifle with open sights. No interest in using it with a scope as I already have a heavy barrel (Marlin 882 SSV) for that purpose. Anyone out there have any experience with the Henry LA rifle in 22 Mag? Thx in advance for any thoughts you might have...

I have a Henry lever action Golden Boy in .22 mag. It is very well built, smooth action and accurate, tho not a tack driver. I feel the trigger is a little hard but I'm guessing that levergun triggers are supposed to be like that so you don't accidently trip it when closing the action. As far as the quality goes, it's excellent. If your hearts not set on a lever and you want a good 'walk around' gun in .22mag, consider the Ruger 10/22mag.
