I started with casting a few months ago and shoot 357, 45 colt, 30-30 and 45-70. I also have a Lever action BLR. Would it be a mistake to try cast with this? Cleaning could be an issue. I simply hate cleaning from the muzzle. Any thoughts? Mine also seems to have a very tight chamber. I need the smaller dies with this gun. How much advantage compared to my 30-30's loaded up hot? It is a 30-06.

I too fire cast bullets from several rifles and have an '06 lying around. The 30-06 needs to be loaded down quite a bit to keep velocities low enough to keep from leading up the barrel. I can only get about another 200fps more out of my '06 than my 30-30 with the same bullet before troubles start. Needless to say I don't load cast in the '06 unless I want to plink a bit with it, but I prefer the 30-30 for that anyway.

Dr. A,
I have been loading cast in my .358 BLR for over 20 years and thourghly enjoy it. As far as cleaning goes, try the Otis cleaning kit, works great!-JDL
