Thanks for letting us join up with ya'll here on this Forum. things had gotten really nasty over at MT for the past few months because of a few. Isn't it always just a few?

Anyhow, I have seen the names of those that have already come over and can tell you that they are stand up folks. If we see any of the not so good folks come along, I for one will not bash them in any way and hope my MT brothers and sisters will use the same approach. Just want you all to know that most of us are good folks.

Thanks for letting me rant.

Dave :)

Been here for a while. It's a cool site. The MT folke ought to make a difference.

VTDW, how ya been? Haven't heard from you since I told you in a PM I am from Michigan.

Big Redhead,

Now that is odd. I sent you several e-mails with a couple of them inquiring if you wanted to joint some of us for a hog hunt. I never had any of the e-mails bounced back and figured something was just wrong on your end for some reason.

You being a Yankee had nothing to do with it! :D :D

Stay in touch,

Dave

I will use the blinking eye if I can figure out how to make it my avatar. I tried last night to no avail.

I have added you to my permanent MT list of good folks. I really did send 3-4 e-mails to you.

Maybe it's not too late. E-mail me at home.

Dave,

Very well said! The experience and knowledge you all can offer will certainly be appreciated. If a "not so good" post appears, please alert one of the moderators and we'll address the issue promptly. We have added moderators to help with the increased load, but it will always remain difficult to read every post as they appear.

Thanks again and make yourself at home.

VTWD and Big Redhead,

I have seen a bunch of MT fellows here and I am really glad to see you two. I think it is time to leave MT behind and move on to other things. This appears to be a great sight and a great place to swap info.

Now as we say in the pheasant fields "Look on!"

I know you won't have to worry about things getting out of hand around here, because their is a big GRIZZ BEAR that does the bouncing at the front door. :p

Hey guys,
Thanks for the info on how to get here. Looks like a good place to be. I sent my letter to the Boss man at Marlin yesterday! I did get a lot of good info off the old MT, but looks like a lot of good info here. I did get my 336D. So far only got 1 feral cat  Any way good to see the old friends again.

I just registered with this site, my third since MT dumped us out in the cold.

Marlin still makes the best leverguns, but they really disappointed us, didn't they? I'll be checking this site often.

Best regards, Steelbanger

I'm an almost refugee from M-T , almost because I've been a member here for a while. Didn't post much but came here to pick a lot of smart people's thoughts. This is a great forum, Beartooth, Thank You greatly for letting us orphans in.

( by the way how are a few people getting their Avatars to work here? I've tried with absolute 0 luck):D

I am still the same EAGLE EYE 444 as previously on the MT Board.

I am really happy to see many of the "Marlin family" posting here as well. I look forward to a continued relationship with many of you and also look forward to making many new acquaintances as well. Thanks to BEARTOOTHBULLETS for offering this site to all of us enthusiasts so that we may continue our daily education of firearms, shooting, reloading and every other bit of information from A-Z.

To: Gunjunkie aka Elliot........It may take me a while to get accustomed to your new screen name here. Heck, you will always be Gunjunkie to me and Braveheart.

Hey guys, I made it here. Thanx to VTDW for the holler!!

Dan thanx for having us hang out here. This is a new site for me so I'm going to have a look-see. And I'll agree.....most of us are pretty decent. Those that were attached to the "big bore" forum at MT are a great bunch. Never did like the misc forum, that was nasty at times.

RedHead,

Just found this site today after Marlin did their best Enron imitation. Poor decisions from management and they folded their tents and broke camp. Well, at least there is a place here for the MT displaced.

I probably should have sent you an email to let you know that your scout scope mount works like a charm! Got my first hog with it Tuesday night. Been shootin nothing but paper, so it was long overdue to finally see the GG in action - what a bad, bad thumper!!

Anyway, thanks for the 'garage engineering' job you did on the scope mount. It has gotten lots of compliments (except fro the hog).

Catch ya later,
CPA

OldCoot,

Unfortunately not. They expected us to play nice but human nature being what it is, well some of us weaker ones just gave into the flesh if you know what I mean.

I cannot believe that is the whole story though. We will just have to wait and see. For me, I will be a much more polite personality or will just ignore some things.

Big Red,

Probably should have let you know before now about your scope mount you sent to me. I have only been punching holes in paper until Tuesday night when I finally put those Leupold crosshairs on a big hog. Your mount worked like a champ!

I stumbled upon this site the other day - thank goodness. I see Marlin did their "Enron" impression with MT and broke camp and shut down overnight. What a loss for those like me searching for some good info from fellow enthusists (or whatever we are called around here).

Well, hunting season behind me, tax season upon me, gotta go. Just needed to pop over here and take a break from the tax code (yaaawwwnnnn)...

Looks like a nice place here, and there have been some recent additions to the forum pages especially for us ex-Marlin Talkers. Take a look around the site here- lots of good places to fit in...

I was out in feild when MT was shut down had to do our annual qualification on our assigned weapons. But anyway it is sure nice to see a lot of familiar faces here, and I can't wait to share knowledge with you all again here at our new home. Also before I close I would like to send out a prayer for a good freind of mine and for his family :( my friend was one of those great Americans who was lost in the explosion last week in Afghanistan thank you all and it is great to see you all.

I'll have to say that I'm enjoying the posts I've been reading! It's great to be of service to you folks, and the stability of these forums is what gives them their value, in that the old threads that are rich in information are peserved for all, and more importantly, that relationships and communication with cyber-friends can contunue, un-broken and unimpeded.

My thanks to all for the kind words, and I'm looking forward to getting to know what seems to be a great bunch of fellow shooters!

My .02?

If it starts with ".4", does it really matter beyond that? Oh, I know I know, everyone can go 'ballistic' and give their .02 on what's best - with very convincing arguments. I hunted for years with a 30-30 and a 270 with much success. But toting a guide gun (oops, ok I'm hooked on the 45-70) feels like my first hunt as a kid. At a young age carrying a big gun (20 guage) gave me that 'grown-up' feeling. Well, now by carrying a weapon that can level anything walking in my neck of the woods, it's that same kinda feeling. It gets lots of raised eyebrows and wrinkled brows once the ports come to life (a few complaints by anyone nearby, but no big deal).

Anyway, glad to be here and participate in the 'volleys' that occur on questions like this one.

Hope no one thought I was serious with the above remark being that I'm not a newbie asking the question (to which we usually smile and humor with a helpful answer).

I'll take anything that's big bore in the guide gun but I'm hopelessly hooked on 45-70

I was 30-30 Man on the MTForum . I was a member of this forum also but had to change my name when this site change a few years ago. It wouldn't let me keep my last log in name of Big Buck. I am now 30-30 Man on this forum also. Glad to be here. The other Hunting forums was Magnum this and WSM that.

I was a closet 30-30 shooter on the other forums. I would get the " Is it your Dads gun he gave you as a kid." Well, I feel welcome here as a 30-30 shooter. I love my 30-30 and use it often. I see you even have a Lever Gun section. Feels like home.

Hello Riflemen: A recheck of this site reafirms my first impressions. A lot of great folks hang out here that are both familiar and unfamiliar to me. I feel lucky that so many of the MT riflemen dropped their hat here and anticipate learning a bunch of good handloading and shooting things from the whole group.
My first question. I'm going to start shooting some cast bullets in my 45-70 and wonder if any folks have some information and opinions on the Beartooth brand. I shoot 400 grain pellets or thereabouts and I am looking for economy and better bullets. I'll check out their web site but would still enjoy hearing from someone who has used this product. I handload everything I shoot but cast bullets are not real familiar to me. Some pistol ammo reloading experience.
I also noticed some good info. on the 30-30AI. I have a nice one in Marlin and have worked out loads for it. A poster before me said something like he got less than respectable remarks from some of the magnum riflemen he has listened to. I have heard some of this and it is just ignorance of the way some of us like to hunt. I love the 30-30 stuff in any brand.
So there it is gentlemen. Some back to business stuff. I have not had to stare at that darn blinking eye yet but sense it's just a few days away. Then I'll know I have arrived and the original folks on this site will know "He" has arrived. Take care and be safe. Life is good, BeastLever

Hi BestLever,

While I have not yet used them, I'm sure Beartooth bullets are good from the reports I hear.

Now, if you want economy, cast your own. I use a Lee 340 grain plainbase mould. I lube with Lee liquid alox applied to the grooves and driving bands (not the nose). My current Ruger #1 shows no leading when this bullet is loaded with a moderate charge of XMP-5744. If you want hotter loads, go to a gaschecked bullet and/or different lube applied with a luber-sizer.

Casting is work, but for me it is a labor of love. I get a charge out of shooting bullets I made. It's almost the same feeling as reloading my own.

Gentlemen, (and ladies),

Alex hasn't had time to devote to the forum since his return, so I've been on a very steep learning curve...however, I did muddle my way through this one, and finally have the Avatar issue ironed out.

At this time any and all can upload their favorite Avatar! Simply go to your user CP (button upper left corner of display screen), and once you click on it, then select the Avatar option. From there you will have a series of options and a self-explanitory window in which to upload your personal custom Avatar.

My appologies to all for the delay in getting this feature online for everyone! Thanks for your patience!

God Bless,
