I need to sight in my new 39A. I'll start with open sights before deciding whether or not to mount a scope. My question is, should I break in the barrel with 100 rounds or so before trying to sight it in?

What does anyone like for .22 ammo? cci, remington, win.

i shoot cci stingers for their extra whallop. a little more expensive, but lots more power. no need for break-in. just clean the bore first to make sure all of the machining grit is out of it, and maybe once or twice in the first 100 rounds or so, then you are set.

thanks for info, Monty.

Picked up 50 rds of cci stingers today. The store had 525 rds of Remington hp golden bullets for less than $8 bucks so I'll be shooting some of those for awhile too.

Monty's advice is sound, but don't expect different ammo to shoot to the same POI. It usually takes 20-30 rounds for your bore to "settle in" each time you change brands.

...my 39a thinks remington yellowjackets are the best- a tad on the dirty side, and occasionally one will be trying to escape from the case, but out to 50yds, they're tops out of that bbl....and I still have a slew of stingers left...

...max accuracy may not be achievable in your rifle with the 30-32gr bullet; try some pmc std velocity also- 2 guys who shoot in the single-shot league were telling me that their browning and sharps think the cheap! pmc ammo is the best they've ever used- could be a fleeting thing....go figure...
