hi, i was wondering if a 300 gr hornady hp traveling @ about 800-1100fps is considered a light(squib) load?.....would one have to worry about a jacketed bullet being stuck in the chamber in my 45-70 marlin guide gun?.......would like to make up some lighter loads using the above bullet with about 9-11 grains of UNIQUE powder.......thanks larry

Probably not a good idea to use jacketed bullets for this kind of load..or any load under 1200fps. WIth lead, I've used loads in that vel. range with no problem.

ribbonstone,........ thanks for the input.....yes i think your right, i loaded up 3 each of 11.12and 13 grains of unique....these should be ok......i would like to try them out but i'm healing from a cut tendon injury(prob another month anyway before i'm back in the saddle again ...i'm expecting a order of JB Youngs cast "crater" bullets sometime this week...that should keep me busy for awhile .....larry(too much time on my hands;))

If you're using those 550 grain-ers, you may well be out of the saddle again after touching off too many of those ! ! !

Off the bench 500s and over are murder on the shoulder ! ! :D :D :D
