I'm trying to come up with a 300gr lead bullet just powerful enough to knock over rams at 200yds - I'm guessing about 1500 fps should work. Just so happens that I have a bunch of Unique and AA3031. I would greatly appreciate info from anyone who has shot reduced 444 300gr loads, especially with one of these powders.

Oops, just checked my supplies - turns out my AA3031 is really AA2230.

sharding,

If those are the onlytwo powders that you have on hand, I would try the Unique.

In doing load workups for the .444 in reduced velocity loads for an upcoming article on the .444 (part V of the tech note series), I found that both our .432-290gLFNGC and the .432-300gWFNGC both performed very nicely with between 14 and 16 grains of Unique, using WLRP's and a Lee Factory Crimp. Accuracy and Uniformity was fine (Although other powder combinations for this velocity range contributed better overall accuracy) and very pleasant loads on the shoulder, the ears and the pocketbook as well. Totally adequate for kicking over 200 yd rams.

I can't comment on the use of Jacketed bullets in this weight range with the powders you've specified, in your target velocity range.

Hope this helps.

God Bless,
