Hello all!
I'm new to this forum. Came over from Marlin Talk, and hope to get the same friendly (in most cases :D ) help I did over there. I just got my new Marlin 336CS today, and ordered my reloading set up today as well, but I need help with some loads. I'm looking to light load a few types of rounds for small game, and then load some 'high potency' loads for deer and wild boar sized game (and perhaps for home protection). If any of you can help, I sure would appreciate some help in the right direction.

If I put this in the wrong spot I appologize. I saw the Marlin levergun section and was just drawn in :D !

Oldebones, I'me new to loading for the 30-30 too, but have found one load that works in my 336. It uses 170 grain hornady FP slugs behind a 32.5 grain charge of WW 748 with CCI 250 primers and WW cases. I get pretty decent accuracy, and velocity is just about 2100 fps. I'm planning on playing with RL-15 this year, to see if I can bump the velocity up closer to 2200 fps.
As for your small game loads, I haven't done much loading with cast yet but I'm gunna. An aquantance give me a few samples, and I managed to get one of the cast bullets to group five shots into about an inch at 50 yards with 18 grains of IMR 4198. Unfortunately its a pointed bullet design. But hopefully I can get my 311041s to do about as well.
Good luck
Almost forgot to mention- work up your loads carefully, starting at least 10% below loads LISTED in a loading manual. Loads that I have tested in MY rifles may not be safe in yours... be careful.
I have been using 19g of IMR4759 and a 110g Rn bullet. It is accurate and fun to shoot. There is a 100g short jacket and 110g hollow point to be had if you want, but the 110g RN will not do as much damage as the others. For full power loads I use H335 and a 150g bullet. I find the 150's dump more energy into the animal than the 170's that plow right through without expanding much. I like the Winchester bullets best, but also use Hornady's.

I too am new to the 30-30. Been reloading for 30 years but never owned a 30-30 till I found an older Marlin 336 without the safety . Just put a Williams Receiver site & a Firefly front on. Now I'm going to try to work up a load using cast bullets, # 2 Lyman alloy 170gr.gas check bullet from a Lee mold. I'm going to try IMR 4064 first, as I use it for most of my rifle ammo & have been very happy with it as an all around powder.
I'll let you know how it works out next week , after I've had a chance to try them out.:D

Hey 'Bones,
Maybe John Kort (a moderator over here) will put his two cents worth in . He's the guy who shoots his 30-30 at 1000 yards and hits what he aims at!

Thanks for the input folks. Every bit helps. As I said, I'm looking for some light loads for small game (rabbits and similar sized critters), AND 'heavy' loads for deer and wild hogs as well What may be light for deer might be just perfect for putting some rabbit in the freezer! That's why I finaly picked the 30-30, the All American multi purpose hunting round :D .

This is a good thread...
My 336RC should be here this week and I am looking forward to working up some loads for it.
I have read about one load in particular and was wondering if it was BS.
Hornady 100 gr Plinker, 39gr A2015, just shy of 3000fps. :o
This sounds too good to be true...has anyone experimented with this combo before?
This is the link to were I found the load: http://www.leverguns.com/articles/paco/3030varmint.htm

It's a scorching load, to be sure.... Speer shows their 100gr. bullet at just under 2,800fps in the #12 manual, although AA2015BR is not the fastest powder for their loads. They stop at 35 grains, so Paco is pushing it.
I'd say.... approach with caution.
