Good evening all!

I love that term "refugee" :D

Anyways, I don't know if this is the right forum to ask but here's my question. I'm curious as to why the Army chose the Aimpoint over the EO Tech? I was leaning towards the Aimpoint but an Army friend of mine swears by the EO Tech so I'm giving the EO a 2nd look. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
WD

BTW BOA, (if you're on this board) I finally braved the FREEZING COLD wind and snow and went to shoot my Garand! :D Definitely is my favorite rifle I've ever fired. I got good groups considering the weather. Groups from prone were roughly about the size of your fist @ 100 yards. What group sizes do Garands usually get?

WD, I've had an Aimpoint for a year now and it's great. No problems at all.Got the large battery cap and it will take 2 batteries now. Dot is brighter and it is supposed to last 5,000-10,000 hrs. Watch fox news or (ugh) CNN and you will see almost all Aimpoints being used by our nations bravest.Any other ?'s please ask. Good shootin' ---- pruhdlr

I have both and I like the EOTech much better. Both will co-witness though an AR-15 but the VOF is much clearer though the EOTech, not in the least tinted. Also, if your screen gets damaged with the EOTech, so long as there is ANY screen left at all, you can still use it. You can cover up 90% of the screen and still see the reticle no matter where you have any screen left. You sure can't do that with the Aimpoint. The Aimpoint is smaller though if absolute size means anything. I have had no problems with my Aimpoint at all, nor any from the EOTech. My pick though is the EOTech.
One note, the Bushnell Holosight is NOT the same as the EOTech. EOTech made the sight originally and sold the rights to Bushnell. Bushnell then outsources the building and de-engineered it to make it cheaper, and they did a good job on that. It turned out to be a much cheaper product in many ways. Once the agreement between EOTech and Bushnell expired, EOTech went to making them back to spec and done right. My dealer is both an EOTech and a Bushnell dealer, and he is the one who told me this little story.

Thanks for the replies guys. I took a look at the EO Tech, and the square display just isn't for me. :)

Probably way too late to help with your decision for the "DOTS", but I prefer the Eo Tech as well. My aimpoint was purchased for a S&W 29, and then to the Browning .22 Target. I took a loss of 50.00 to get some money back. It would not hold up under recoil of the .44. Lens covers, extension, rubber eye cup, all fell off in very short order. Better for the .22.
Trijicon has a new scope out with both systems, and I think the Trijicon will co-witness as well. Look in the latest Guns and Ammo new stuff section.
There is another company that makes an excellent product called the "Ultra Dot". Same concept, smaller housing and it's made by Oakshore Electronics. It has held up on the .308 carbine, and another of my rifles in .338-06 Ackley Improved. So far proven pretty tuff, but I would not assume these were military grade.

I can't tell you about the Eo Tech, but I've got an old Aimpoint 5000 that's been on a bunch of different guns with nary a twitch. It came on a Clark converted Ruger MKII target 22 and then was on a Ruger Super Redhawk 44 magnum for a while and now resides on a Mossberg 835 3.5 inch magnum and has done really great duty on them all.
