Scope for 9422 that fits without TO-10

I have a Weaver TO-10 that would allow me to put a scope a bit forward of the receiver center. I'd like to mount a scope centered on the receiver and directly to it using Talley's low 9422 rings (very classy!). My worry is eye relief.

Do you think I can put one of Leupold's small scopes on my 9422 with the Talley rings (this means I have maybe a half inch of wiggle room front to back) and have my eye relief in a decent place?

The kind of scope I'm talking about is something like a VX-II 1-4x20mm (go to the following link and follow the menus):

The Talley rings are like these:

BTW I really appreciate talking these things over with folks on the Internet. For years I've been something of a lone ranger when it comes to batting around ideas about guns and hunting. A forum like this is candy store for a kid raised on a candy-free island. I love it!

The Leupolds normally have very generous eye relief, on reason I favor them as scope mounting is less of a chore.

On their scopes with a 20mm objective, there isn't a front bell so you get even more room to move the scope back, if needed.

I'd say that has as good of a chance as any of working.

I'm not worried about having enough eye relief; I'm worried about having the scope too close. Given the small size of the 9422's receiver, most scopes mounted directly to it place the eyepiece too far back, forcing the shooter to cant his head backward or place his head too far back on the stock. I'm trying to find a scope small enough that I can put my head at a natural position on the stock and see the whole view.

I'm bringing this back to the top. Anybody have other ideas?

The Simmons Mini-Mag rimfire scope may be worth a look- the ones I have seen are 4 X 28 mm and quite compact. I am using the Weaver T-O 10 base adapter, and have no problems with it under a 3-9X 40 mm on a 94-22-M.
