I am searching for a single shot rifle that will shoot .22LR, Shorts, Low velocity shorts etc.... for just plinking around with my son. Does anyone know any MFG that makes a rifle like this? I has to be full size though so i can shoot it. I have been looking forever and can't locate anyone who makes one. I have an old springfield bolt action that broke and the smith is having a hard time finding the parts.

Marlin and Savage are the two I'm aware of , 15Y is the marlin and MKII is the Savage . While both are downsized rifles the Marlin is the smaller dimensioned of the two. Both should be about $125.00 or so dollars.

H&R/NEF Makes a single-shot for around $120, but it's a break-action, not a bolt. You do have the option of adding barrels for 22WMR and 17HMR for about $80 apiece. I have the 17HMR, and it's very accurate.

Why a single shot? I have had a ruger 10/22 for about 6-8 years and i love it. Semi's are a blast to shoot. the first rifle i ever shot was my grandfathers sears roebuck 22 semi. way more fun than a single shot. guarateed to hold a kids interest

the main reason is because, i want to be able to shot "shorts" and LV bullets to get him started. Can't do that with the semi's.

A friend of mine has a Ruger 10/22; after a little research, we discovered you CAN shoot .22 shorts with it. You have to change the clip, and a minor modification to the gun, but it can do it.

Try this link:

If that doesn't work, it's at rimfiresports.com It uses a lighter bolt & springs and a different magazine. I didn't realize how expensive the kit is; at $188 I could buy another gun...

CZ makes a nice little rifle called the scout. Small enough for a child yet large enough for you. The nice thing about it is it comes from the factory with a blank clip which makes it a single shot. When your child is ready to upgrade all you have to do is buy a clip that holds multiple rounds. The rifle costs around $179.00 and has a pretty good fit and finish.

Keep looking, there are several youth size bolt-action 22s on the market. These include the Davy Cricket, believe Henry makes one, several are :p  made by Keystone.....

Bought my step-son a Davy Cricket and he loves it. It very light, it has a youth size stock. You have to manually cock the gun each time you load it by pulling the knob on the back of the bolt, which I like for the safety aspect.

The fact it is a single-shot makes 'em learn to make each shot count!

You can find them in a wide variety of stocks, colors, etc. Typically around $150.00

Ever thought of the Savage M30, a rolling block 22? Another light, fun gun - I have 2. They run ~$200.00.
