I am ordering a NEF Ultra Varmint .223 for an upcoming prarie dog hunt. In checking many of these rfles out, I have found that the majority have a respectable 2 1/2 pound trigger pull. However, some have had significant trigger creep before going off. Is this trigger reworkable? Is there any links on how to do this? I have done my own triggers on all of my other firearms (remingtons, savage, ruger pistols and rifles) and want to make sure I can rework the NEF if it comes in with creep.

I have the same rifle, and was told by a gunsmith that the triggers are reworkable. I've never done a trigger job so I can't tell you how, but there is a NEF group on Yahoo that has touched on this. Another thing to consider, if you're going to order another barrel for that receiver, you can have them do a free trigger job on the gun while they have it.

AZ has a point, I have done a trigger job on the old 158 H&R and it was not a quick chore as there is a lot of taking apart and putting it back together for trial. When I was done I had a nice trigger no creep and the original mainspring. I would say the single action revolvers trigger and hammer are pretty close to the same rework. It is a pain on the NEF as you are driving pins in and out not screws. It takes time but the outcome makes the effort it takes worth it.

I just finished doing the triggers on two of my H+R rifles. It seems like it will be tougher than it is, and after the first one, they come pretty easy. If you run over to the Greybeard Outdoors site, they have a Misc H+R Talk, collectables, Handguns Forum, at the bottom of the H+R/NEF forums. You'll find a post there about honing the triggers. If you have any questions when you go to do it, send me an E-mail at marlinnut94@aol.com, I'd be glad to lend any help I could.

Look on perkloafm.com they have instructions in Adobe format that are pretty good.

Sorry for taking so long to get back to each of you. Been on the road for most of the last several weeks. Thanks to each of you for your feedback. I did contact perklo and was able to get the info from him. He has done a great job putting together the info. We are buying several different H&R & NEF single shots here shortly and I will be working the triggers over on all of them. Will let you know how they all turn out.
Thanks again.
It is my understanding that Marlin/NEF will do a free trigger job if you send them the rifle, handy if you are sending one in for a new barrel.

PS, Im not saying that you couldn't do a better trigger job yourself.
