By the way, I would like to come down there and join you in a hunt and see what pointers I might be able to give you. I'm always willing to help.

303/25 tack driver

I have a 303/25 and it is a tack driver
I built it up on a ruger No1 with a 30" Octagonal Badger barrel
I shoot 120 grain Sierras and 38 grains of ADI 2208 (Vargent)

I use it on goats up on the Murchison and Pilbra .I get back 200-300 yards from a water hole and brain shoot them .Ive blown the heads of a few ducks with it as well. Its the most accurate field rifle I own.

all the best

303-25

Hi there i used to own and load for a couple of mates in 303-25.
mate had a P14 and i would also load the longest and heaviest projectiles i could find.
this calibre to me has always been an inherently accurate.used mostly on pigs and wild cattle,
occasional horses. went to a 308 mainly i had a good supply of brass.
these days i am shooting lever actions. open sights are a revelation.
in south queensland.

The venerable old 303.25 is a much under rated caliber.

My uncles used them for pig hunting in the 60's and 70's and would swear by them as dynamite killers.

I recently saw one advertised on the "Used Guns" site, based on a Mauser action, a beautiful scoped rifle, but I couldn't raise the funds.

.303 case life.

The trick to getting good case life when reloading a rimmed cartridge that is to be used for the same rifle all the time, is to only neck size. A rimmed cartridge will be fire formed to your guns exact chamber the first time it is fired in that gun. The shoulder will be stretched forward to fill the chamber. Unlike a rimless cartridge that locates on the shoulder. A rimmed cartridge locates on the rim so shoulder length never needs to be pushed back if Fired in that same chamber. Full length sizing is unnecessary and pushes back the shoulder each time and when fired that shoulder again stretches forward, causing a thinning of the brass and a much earlier failure of the case then if only neck sized. The cartridge if often more accurate if only neck sized because it is already a perfect fit for your chamber.
