Hey Everett,
Want any updates on the fires goto
http://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/
Gonna be a lot of work coming up but it's too soon to say what and how much. The fires have killed approx 200 people confirmed but the number is expected to grow as more are found during the clean up.
The people of Victoria, all over Australia and our friends and allies around the world the USA, New Zealand, Phillipines to name a few have been putting in a mighty effort to assist those who have been effected by the fires, this is our greatest natural disaster, the enormity of the event is really starting to hit now that people are able to take a step back and take it all in.
Yesterday a volunteer firefighter from Canberra was killed by a falling burnt tree, he was down here because he wanted to repay the help of the Victorian volunteer firefighters who went to Canberra a few years ago when they had some terrible bushfires, a terrible tragedy among such sorrow already.
The other thing that we are dealing with are floods in Southern Queensland and Northern New South Wales, there are communities up there who are going to be isolated by floods for at least another 2 weeks and possibly a month.
So things down here are from one end of the scale to the other.
Fires are still burning in some areas of national parks (deer hunters are crying in their beers) and are being left to burn unless property or people are under threat.
From what I know Shepparton is fine, so your friends should be ok.
But given all that there will still be some good shooting pigs, goats, 'roo (under permit), buffalo and deer will be around and there are always rabbits, foxes, and hares.
So if your interested in coming down do it, at the rate the AU$ is at the moment we're almost paying you to come LOL.
