Hello this is my first post! I am interested in the .457 Wild West Magnum and I would like to hear anything about this round -Pros & Con. specifically Comparison between .457 and .45-70? And big one for me - Has anyone used .45-70's in guns chambered for .457 and how was the accuracy? I did see one previous post on the .457 but it was short lived and folks kinda got off on another subject. Thanks for comments Grizzly!

I have done a little looking into this round and It seams kinda pointless other than a hay look what I have or if you just want it. They are claiming 350g bullet at 2200 FPS. Buffalo Bore ammunition 350g at 2150. Out of my 1895G I get 2100fps with the buffalo bore round. Grizzly claims there 350g hawk bonded core bullet is at 2200fps. My hand loads are right up there not equil to what the factory claims but pretty close to what they factory ammunition does out of my gun. The WWG ammo is 59 bucks a box not encludeing S&H. Buffalo Bore purchased from midway usa 40.99 a box. Maby there fancy bullet out preforms Buffalo Bore but I doubt it. What I am getting at is I think that it is a lot of hype and marketing. Yes It would be realy cool to have a custom rifle that can fire .45-70 and also shoot a wild cat cartrage. If you can justify spending 300 bucks for the conversion plus shipping and handeling well do it. If it is just a wow cool factor than fork over the money get the conversion and if you live in Florida let me know I will buy a box of ammo and we can go shooting

Welcome to the forum.

If a standard .45-70 doesn't kick enough to suit you, there are the heavy loads from Buffalo Bore, Cor-Bon, and what not.

If those don't kick you enought in a Marlin, then let me tell you, you are a heck of a lot tougher that most shooters.

I'll pass on the .457 magnum.....

That's my take on it.....

The WWG 457 Magnum is a superfluous cartridge. One can get the same performance by altering a regular Marlin 1895 45-70 to cycle up to 2.67" rounds and load the 45-70 to a 2.67" COL.
