I have an Olympic 9mm Carbine, which I like...but, It is that A1-A3 style (carrying handle). I have a scope mount on it, but the scope lines up sorta funky to the eye.

I've thought of getting altering it by cutting the carrying handle off and putting on a picatinny rail. I'd have the smith leave the rear sight in place.

Is it a crazy thought?

While I'm not all that familiar with what's available in 9mm on that platform, you may be $$ ahead, or a push, just getting a new upper in flat top config - if available.

I have an Armalite AR10 with the carry handle for which I got a scope mount attached to it. It works, but I wish it was a flat top from the start.

I agree with Shawn. Leaving the original rear sight in place would interfer with the scope. By the time you had the work done, you'd be most of the way there in price to buying a flat top upper.

I'd just buy a new stripped flat top upper receiver and have the smith modify that to use that spring thing Olympic uses as the ejector. Probably about the same money, and less work for the smith, which also means faster turn around time.

Agree, just get a new upper. Stripped you should only pay @ $70.
Put the BCG in the new upper and, VIOLA!
