The L.L.Bean Game&Fish Cook Book

I have a very good and kind friend in California and by the way there are still a few good country, hunting type people living down there. It is just not many of them seem to get into power. This friend sent me a copy of the above book, written by Angus Cameron(now theres a name that doesn't seem to fit with California ) and Judith Jones. It is expertly written and contains a plethora of good receeeps. There are some beautiful illustrations by Bill Elliot. OK some of the ingredients are not easy to find here in the UK ie blackstrap molasses, striped bass(mores the pity) but we can find some things very similar and the result is just the same ...DELICIOUS

My copy of the Bean cook book is from the '80's. Still a great source for recipes.

cgg Great recipes do not die of old age. I have one of my grandmothers 'Mrs Beatons' Cook Books as well, Jugged Hare ??? She starts " first go catch your hare " :-) This book is very well handled and covered in food stains from 70 years back, maybe more. One of the best things I ever did was take a cookery course. Here we have a number of Young Farmers Cluibs and way back in the 50s the girls in our club could not raise enough bodies to fill a course with a local school teacher on cooking, so a mate of mine and I filled the two places. By far the best ten evenings I have ever spent. My wife and I don't go out for meals, we would far more enjoy inviting four or six friends around and planning a really nice lunch or evening meal. For a fraction of the cost of going to a fine dining house, we can put on a far better meal, knowing the providence of the food we are serving.
