Remington 1903A3 Q's

I picked up a Remington 1903A3 today while I was making my rounds at the local pawn shops (I got a Ruger Red Label too )

This one doesn't have the original stock, but I already ordered an unissued GI stock from Numrich, although I can't find the stock metal pieces anywhere.

I've already cleaned about 4 pounds of nasty greasy gunk from this rifle, but I need to get the rear sight off (its a Redfield peep) I thought it would be like the Williams on my Marlin, but I can't get the adjustment to move, so I'm seeking help with that.

What is desireable with these guns, my barrel is stamped 9-42 with the Ordnance flaming bomb proof mark, and a circle P. The receiver is stamped in many places with an R, and the bottom of the receiver has a bunch of proof marks, the serial number puts the DOM in December 1942. The stamped parts are perfect with a little surface rust and no bluing remaining. I think it was re-finished because I read that these were parkerized and not blued like the 1903's.

The bore is perfect with excellent rifling and no pitting. The barrel is mostly browned with a little blue remaining under the stock.

I was thinking about having the metal all media blasted to remove the rust and do Brownells' bake on finish in matte black or OD green.

You might check out the "Cheaper than Dirt" catalong. I thought I saw some of the metal for 03 there. Also pick up a shotgun news. Lots of stuff for the old military rifles advertised in there.

OK;

I've got an 03a3 buttplate, a ladder rear sight with the springs, and the front band with screw for the front hand guard. If can use them, PM me.

I had built an 03a4 forgery out of a Remmie 03a3 I got for 25 bucks. Came out ok, right down to the 7/8 rings and Lyman Alaskan

Excuse me Chris, but isn't the ladder rear sight for an original Model 1903? All the 03-A3 rifles I have seen have had the extended handguard and an aperture sight on the rear bridge that looks a lot like the ones on the later carbines.

Nice job on the 03-A4 "forgery"!

Yup - ladder sight goes with the '03, while the receiver bridge peep goes with the '03a3.

yes, yes, yes...

I used the wrong term....it's a sight for 03a3, the adjustable "Ramp" that mounts on the rear of the receiver.

Matt;

Answered yur PM, I'll likely ship tomorrow.
