The pastor asked if anyone in the congregation would like to express praise for answered prayers. Suzie Smith stood and walked to the podium. She said, "I have a praise. Two months ago, my husband, Tom, had a terrible wreck on his Harley, and his scrotum was completely crushed. The pain was excruciating and the doctors didn't know if they could help him." You could hear a muffled gasp from the men in the congregation as they imagine the pain that poor Tom must have experienced. "Tom was unable to hold me or the children," she went on, "and every move caused him terrible pain." We prayed as the doctors performed a delicate operation, and it turned out they were able to piece together the crushed remnants of Tom's scrotum, and wrap wire around it to hold it in place."
Again, the men in the congregation cringed and squirmed uncomfortably as they imagined the horrible surgery performed on Tom. "Now," she announced in a quivering voice, "thank the Lord, Tom is out of the hospital and the doctors say that with time, his scrotum should recover completely."
All the men sighed with unified relief.

The pastor rose and tentatively asked if anyone else had something to say.

A man stood up and walked slowly to the podium. He said, "I'm Tom Smith." The entire congregation held its breath. "I just want to tell my wife the word is sternum."

So , I have a chance at Moose hunting in the "near" north, that is, just across the Minnesota border in Ontario. Success ratio above 50% on bulls, so basically I will be killing something between 800-1400lbs. I have a Savage "package" rifle(.308) that is quite a good shooter with elk-moose loads(165gr. at 2700fps). Brush is very thick, and a "stalk and shoot" type of shot is most likely, so a 50-60yrd. and less shot is probable. Thinking of using my Bone Collector instead. A "breakdown" shoulder shot would be preferable. A pinpoint accurate shot is not exactly necessary, because of the short range, so I have the luxury of choosing a bullet. Maxiball?? Heavy Powerbelt?? WFNGC (300gr) sabot?? I want it to drop(good luck to me on that!!) quick so it does not wander into a swamp. I think, with 100gr of T7, I can push a 300gr. WFN(45cal) close to 1900fps(sorta my first choice). Thoughts from anybody who has done this??

It's just that I'm really used to SA/DA and like the idea of carrying uncocked and I have no experience with a 1911 style style SA pistol.
There is a Kimber 45 in my future, but not as a CCW.
Thoughts?

But I'm considering another revolver for just trail walking and scouting. Carrying the SBH is just a bit too heavy and bulky for a day's walk.

I live in the east so there's no grizz and cougars are very rare, but there are black bears and some sizeable hogs that I might stumble upon (since I would likely be scouting them).

I'm thinking seriously about getting a Ruger GP100 in .357 Magnum with a 4.2" barrel. Loaded with some 180 or 200 grain hard cast FN I think it would handle about anything afield. Plus the bonus of a fun plinker with 38 wadcutters!!!

I think it would be an easy revolver to carry, too.

What do you folks think?

Do you have a stainless steel Ruger Mark II with the two piece bolt, like this one:

Ruger customer service gets two or three of these broken bolts sent back every year.

The problem is, they don't have ANY Mark II bolts with which to replace the broken bolts with. So, they'll send you a Mark III bolt instead, if they have them available. Before I let that happen to my two Ruger Mark II's with that style of bolt, I've come up with a very reasonable fix. :D I'd rather keep my Mark II as a Mark II rather than have a Mark III bolt in it.

Saturation points by caliber

I'd like to take this thread and possibly get some feedback on which calibers ( bores) are still below their saturation points by existing cartridges. Also, I have noted in this ammo shortage, that there are .375 bullets on the shelves, and 458 Bullets, but not any, in between, at Cabelas and Sportsmen's Warehouse, big box stores.

The new ground seems to be above the 458 diameter. The 308's down to the 257's, seem to be pretty well populated, at this time. I know I wasn't interested in buying a reamer smaller than my 8mm Mag. Wildcat.

The Black Rifle panicking also put a block on specialized reamers which will run wildcatted ammo through an AR 15 magazine. These manufacturers have hit a brick, but golden, wall, and have to catch up on enormous back orders.

As I am a Southpaw, the really big CRF D.G. bolt rifles are way out there. So my development efforts have become mired in the details. I would like to hear from some of you on where the most bang for the buck resides, over the next couple of years.

One possibility for me would be another .416, but this time, with a 1 in 10 twist, in order to stabilize the very long Hornady 450 gr. boat tailed spitzer. This may take shape as simply a longer necked 416 Ruger, chambered in a long action. I could still shoot factory ammo, but the custom neck and quick twist, would expand the usefulness, at least with the newest and longest bullets.

I am putting my money where my mouth is, on a 300 Win Mag conversion, with this kind of longer necked, improved cartridge case. So what sayeth you? Midway has back ordered the 375 Ruger Basic Brass cases all the way to November of 2013. These are about the only way to get longer necks out of them, while still being able to shoot factory fodder.
