More on Photobucket.

Registered Users do not see the above ad.

With photobucket you can only load max image size of 640 x 480 pixels, but that is enough to show some dandy photos.

Kamiah Idaho on the Clearwater River 27 miles from my house, a wide view.

Whoops, Anacortes, WA. Sunset.

The view up the canyon from my reloading bench.

Bob,
When using photobucket, do you end up with a link to the photobucket site, or do you end up with the actual photos showing on the forum, like your above post? I think I've seen RJ post links to photobucket...I think.

I've opened a photobucket account, and plopped some photos in there and sized them to 640x480, but I do believe they are still more than 100kb, so in that case, seems using a link is the way to go? Just wondering about the mechanics here...I've used the "Manage Attachments" here on the forum and posted photos that I've sized down to <100kb, but those photos were local on my 'puter. Not very computer saavy....

Correct, if it is a link to the photobucket site, then you don't need to worry about the 100K limit.

It is a good thing ensure they aren't too wide, so people don't have to scroll to see them. 640x480 is as small as monitors get these days, so you can certainly go that large. My monitor is set to 1280x1024, and they go up from there.

If they're not more than about 800 pixels wide most people will have no trouble whatsoever.

Thank you Mike, I'll give it a try.

I size all my pictures to be a little less than 8 inches wide and have no problems. I post on the Preditor Master's forum and they have a smaller size limit than here.

Photobucket has three links under your pix, One specifically for forums. It's an IMG link. To post a pix once it's in photobucket you click the mouse on the img link and it will say copied.

You then place the cursor where you want your pix and go control v. This places the link in your post. To see what it looks like just click Go Advanced and you will see your post as it will appear with the pictures in it.

My software for editing pix in the computer is Adobe elements and I can size for measurement (inches) or pixels. I haven't used other software but there is a bunch available. Also photobucket has some resize software but I haven't used it either. Most of the software that comes with your camera has some editing and resizing capabilities.

When I download my pix to the computer they come out the maximum size I have set on my camera. This is 5.2 megapixels in my camera's case and that is far to much to publish as the pix can be 36 inches wide.

Any I want to put on photobucket I downsize and place in an upload file. I then upload these pix to photobucket and delate them from my download file so it's empty for the next batch.

Photobucket allows you to have multiple albums. I have one for game photos, guns, etc.

Gents,

Not sure why, but I can't view those photos that are "photobuckets". I can see TPVs antelope, and MikeG's spike, but the rest won't download.

Tried to get on the photobucket site, but am having trouble doing so, maybe because this is a government machine/ server, and they are particular about what a fellow can add.

Reckon I am just out of luck?

Steve

Sounds like they are blocking imbedded images, or there is a content filter on the site. Sorry....

If you size you pics at something a little less than 800 pixels wide, those of us using older hardware can see the whole thing without having to scroll across page

More than 640 pixels wide makes me have to scroll. That first picture Bob posted is about an inch to wide for my monitor.

Bob you said photo bucket only allows 640 pixels but when I click the properties of that first shot it says 799. How come?

I see now. Where it says "max image size" you can click options and choose from about 6 different sizes. Then if you save it that is what it makes all your uploads.

Boy Ken I wish I was more computer literate. I can only think it must have something to do with screen resolution or total pixel count and monitor width.

The first pix, a wide angle of Kamiah Idaho fits on my screen and it 9 and 1/4 inches wide per my tape measure. I have my screen set at a fairly high resolution. It's set at 1064 by 728. I do a lot of work with photographs and use the high resolution.

Your right about the size in properties, It says 799 pixels wide and 280 pixels high and 98.39 kilobites and 100751 bytes.

The next two pictures are both around 50 kilobites and fit the screen much better. It looks like I need to keep my pix under that 640 wide limit to keep folks from having to scroll to see them.

As for why photobucket allows this when they say they don't it may have something to do with total picture size limit for shots that aren't square. In other words where it says 480 by 640 you may be able to post a 280 by 799 to get the same kilobite count.

Going to lower resolutions may make the pix appear bigger perhaps. It may also have something to do with monitor size. My monitor is a total of 12 inches wide with a 15 inch diagonal. My shooting partner has a wide 24 inch monitor and pictures appear totally different on his. One thing for sure is I have even confused myself here, sorry.
