My son got this nice doe today.

It was this son's 1st and it was a great day! Took it with the Rem 760 in 06 at about 60 yds. Had to get here on the fly as she tried to cross the logging road. The 165 gr SP Hornady dropped her in place. The bullet catching the spine helped. This is the second deer where the bullet came apart after hitting the spine and possibly shoulder bone.

In fact this deer was shot off the same stand my other son got his 1st off of a couple weeks ago and with the same rifle.

Sept 1 to Jan 1 in that area for gun. Archery started Aug 15 but bucks only until Sept 15 for gun or bow. Limit is 10 total not to include more than 5 antlered deer. Most weekends are doe days and you can purchase antlerless tags for 5 bucks apiece up to 4 tags per person. These tags can be used any day after Sept 15. Still most folks wait to get a big buck by passing on does. We like to do our part at getting the doe numbers down but mostly we like the meat. Our way does not give you the best chance at a big buck and also means you are not passing on the young bucks which is also not giving you a chance at that buck becoming a big buck but I have enough meat now to let some walk, if I get to go anymore in the next couple weeks. I am looking forward to that chance. I am lucky that I am with some guys that give me a chance to fill my freezer before they start to chastize me for my deer hunting system.

Would I have killed a doe or a young buck yesterday? No. I had a kid there that needed to kill his 1st deer. Did we need one more deer in the freezer? You bet we did. Now we all need to hunt for the big one the rest of the year. Maybe with the 44 SBH!

Since it is for the game pole I should probably post the appropriate pic also. After all. When it gets to this stage you are looking at some of the best sustenance on the planet. I did take this one to a processor but it is one that I have been very pleased with in the past. The one I have been taking my deer to lately has not treated the deer with the same respect I do, after the kill. I work hard to get it cooled out quickly and keep the meat as clean as I can. Part of that care for me is getting that animal washed off of all hair and blood, I do not have water at camp where I skin and dress the deer, as quickly as possible when I get to the processor and then into the cooler quickly. I am not talking about waiting my turn, I expect that but I am talking about considering the care I have taken and for that care to continue through the rest of the process.

When you find that you need to stick with that guy if his location allows. I have that in the processor I use when I travel down state to hunt our lease, and even though I may not return down there next weekend I will travel the additional distance next weekend to pick up this deer. It is a 2 hour drive to the lease but only a 1 hour (these are one way) drive to the processor. The one I have used twice this year in town is 15 min. I will cut up anymore I kill close to home, myself.

I wish we could get that many deer per season up here. Thats a nice lil Doe you guys got.
