2008 Deer
I went out on Sunday 11/16/08 and filled my A tag. This deer was rutting hard with about 20 does. The weather was beautiful but cool. The temp was about 30 degrees and snowing and raining. My son and I put a good sneek on the group of deer. The does kept leading him away ridge after ridge, they knew something was wrong. I finally made it to within 300 yards of him. I was really debating shooting him. I really hate seeing my A tag get used, just means the season is coming closer to an end and back to honey doo's. He finally provided me with a good shot and the scene was just too beautiful to pass up with all the snow falling and my son at my side. My son is 8 years old & he was just jacked. He kept whispering in my ear "Take the shot dad, Take the shot!" just like he was trying to give me good advice. The snow was coming down hard by this time and amplified thru my scope as well as my son's binoculars. I took the shot and immediately lost him in my field of view, the does bolted over the ridge, but my son encouraged me the whole time that the buck went down hard. Sure enough we got over there and the buck lay where I shot. I had hit straight thru the heart. My son and I took a moment to say a little prayer thanking God for this beautiful moment and animal. Backstraps on the barbeque in a few days!! My son was wore out by the time we got home and took this picture. I tried getting him to smile big, but to no avail.
