Would you take the shot...or not?
I originally posted this in the wrong forum section...my apologies...but I wouldn't...I would wait till he turned one way or the other, it is his only choice other than to continue straight towards me...take a look at the picture on the cover of these regs....and POST YOUR OWN pictures of ANY TYPE of game, tell why you would or would not take the shot.
First Picture is on this link...
http://fishandgame.idaho.gov/cms/hun...s/bg/BGtoc.pdf
Or.......if that does not work,,,,try.... http://fishandgame.idaho.gov/cms/hunt/rules/bg/

I believe that Ken suggested the correct place for this thread was the Game Pole. I'll move it.

Wouldn't take the shot in that postition. Just wait a second or two, you'll have a much better chance of a clean kill while saving that head & cape.

If it was a "calm" situation and early in the season, I'd wait a minute for the standard behind the shoulder shot. Last day of season ......He's a downer.....

The mulie looks a little to dark to be legal shooting hours out here. So no, I wouldn't take that shot either. Hopefully it's morning and he'll stick aound another 15 minutes.

If you use a good bullet, you should be able to put it
in the Elk's chest and have the bullet come out the
back end. Something like a Nosler Partition in a decent
caliber will down that Elk every time.

Mule Deer: If its on my own land that I controll access to then YES, I'd take that shot anytime.
If it was on public land then I agree with the back stop issue.

No flames intended. I'm surprised of the number of "Hunters" here that willing to sacrifice a deer or elk's meat in exchange for a set of antlers. Most times when the gut is clipped there is tainted meat. I can't imagine the mess dressing one that has been shot end to end. Guess each to their own.

I agree with you, in both pictures...No reason to hurry in either picture, especially the elk.
AND I would personally NEVER take the shot without proper known backstop. Safety 101.
