I have had a yearning for a Winchester 94 30-30 for sometime now, so I purchased one made in 1959. Now for the hard part to take a deer with the vintage rifle and cartridge
Today was the day that opportunity smiled. The season is open for antlerless deer and I got my chance to connect at about 80 yards. I was easing through a sparse section of woods when I spotted my quarry feeding. The deer turned its head toward me and I raised the rifle and held as steady as possible from a free handed position and fired. The bullet enter the Neck behind the head and the deer went straight down for a very clean kill
When I say a "retro deer I mean NO CAMO and blue jeans as well as a khaki work shirt and my LSU hat

Nice I've gotten a few while I was wearing jeans, too.

I don't believe you guys...everyone knows you can't get close to a deer while wearing blue jeans!

(Actually, I've done it more than a few times myself. Good job using a 30-30 the way it was meant to be used.)

Very cool stuff! I think it's great when someone with a simple lever-action rifle and open sights gets the job done. At reasonable distances, those old guns still work as good as they ever did. I bet that deer never knew what hit him.

When you said "retro" I had an image of someone wearing a pair of Carhartt bib overalls and a dark blue or brown plaid insulated jacket. A lot of guys in northern Michigan called that their hunting outfit for a long time. Then again, it's a whole lot colder in MI during deer season than it is in the south!

JWP; Good job!!! We dont get all spruced up around here either.........jeans and a plaid shirt, and of course the effervescent orange vest is about it. I do like the LSU ballcap...nice touch.
