Do you enjoy cleaning your weapons??

I was wondering it I was just a freak, or do all of you out there take great joy and pride in cleaning your weapons after every trip to the range.

I think cleaning for me is just as fun as shooting, I sit back with a good movie, or good music, break out my toolbox full of cleaning supplies and go at it, until they all look like new.

I can not, not clean my weapons after a trip to the range, I was brought up cleaning them after every trip, and I dont think I could sleep at night knowing my babies were dirty...

So, am I weird, or is this normal??

While I do keep the guns clean, and will clean them after a period of time in storage even though they haven't been shot, can't say I "get off" on it.

I keep my guns reasonably clean. By that I mean that they are cleaned after every trip to a range, but not when huntin' season rolls along. Heck, some of my old Winchesters spend weeks or longer in a scabbard in the jeep. I do wipe 'em down with an oiled rag or silicone cloth when they've been carried. Sweaty hands are not good for gunmetal, especially those with less than new finish.

Thumbs up

Heyho Heyho!

Well cleaning is a neat job.
But bad weather helps!

Also very nice weather helps.

Bad weather (nothing else to do, and reloaded enough for 2 years)

Good weather, take a beer sit in the shadow
and get the sut (soot) out.

And off-course every metal bit as shiny as a baby's *ss.
(do those shine? dunno, cause have none)

Interesting sub-detail: Does a blued gun need more or less cleaning for the visual aspect?
IMHO Stainless needs to be clean elsewise it looks very dirty, but uncleaned BLUE is bluish-black anyway. cleaned or not.

I guess I am the lone "hate it" vote. I absolutely hate cleaning the guns, but if I am going to shoot, it is a chore that must be done. MPRO-7 and MiliTech-1 have made cleaning much less noxious, but I still don't like doing it. I went to the range this morning working up a couple of loads. I shot a total of 15 shots through the .458 Winny and 20 shots through the .458 SOCOM, and a hundred or so through the USPC. Time to do this took less than an hour. However, clean up after I got home took well over an hour. Maybe if I was less anal about everything being perfectly cleaned and lubed before putting them away it wouldn't take so long, but considering the money tied up in the guns, I sleep better knowing they are prepped properly. It is just that I hate to do it. I need a butler to do the clean up work...

Don't mind the cleaning chores too much.

Being retired, it's something else to occupy some idle time with. Nice feeling when everything slicks up squeaky clean.

I don't particularly enjoy cleaning the guns, especially since my barrels seem to be little boys (rather be dirty than clean, they shoot better that way). I wipe the bluing down with a paper towel soaked with remoil. i am thinking about giving my guns a coat of Johnsons paste wax to make the bluing a little more forgiving, anybody have any experience w/ that technique?

I have to vote with the don't mind it a bit crowd. Turn on the TV or radio in my work area and play with the guns.

I'll admit that I do enjoy cleaning my guns, especially the thorough cleaning after every hunting season. If a gun has been out in wet weather, I do a complete takedown/clean/reassemble. After a trip to the range on a sunny day, I'll clean the bore and wipe it down. I definitely would rather be shooting than swabbing any day.

I've never been to a real range!
There are none around here.
I don't like shooting targets. I only do it to sight in and at the local gravel pit or out of my woodshed. I plink.
I voted that I liked cleaning better than the range.
Yes, I know I'm weird.

I like tinkering with the guns, but hate the solvents. I've tried different things throughout the years, but they all stink to me. (Yes, even the beloved Hoppes; it brings back happy memories, but I don't really LIKE it, you know?).

I pretty much use Ed's Red and Barnes CL-10 these days. The Ed's doesn't smell good, but isn't as strong as most. The CL-10 has a strong ammonia smell, but disipates quickly.

Oh well, I guess nothing is perfect.

I'd fall into the don't mind cleaning crowd. I actually get a kick out of tinkering. Gets you intimate with your firearm too. I figure it this way...If I truly enjoy shooting then I need to enjoy the cleanup that goes with it. One can only enhance the other. Just my 2 cents worth....

I picked "I enjoy going to the range much more than cleaning my guns".
When I lived where it was hot and dry, I liked cleaning my guns every few weeks even if they had not been fired, but now that I am where it is rainy and wet all the time I got to the point where I really am starting to hate cleaning my guns as they seem to need cleaned so much more often and keep trying to get rust spots from all the moister in the air.

I would much rather shoot then clean. Sometimes I'll bring 3 rifles with me to the range, then you can have quite a chore on your hands as I give them a good thorough cleaning afterwards.

My girlfriend doesn't like guns much, so I'll have to give one of them up. i don't enjoy cleaning them, the solvents are very hard on my skin/eyes/nose.

Just to make you cringe, I probably have 50,000 rounds through my 10/22, and I could count the number of times its been cleaned on my left hand, currently missing three fingers.

I'm joking about missing fingers, I have all twelve, but I honestly don't make much of an effort to clean the 10/22. Its not that I neglect the gun, its that I shoot it so much, its been through three barrels, and still shoots 1/2" groups at 50 yards with iron peeps that I snagged off a POS remington. It never jams, it never misfires, its quite literally perfect. Now, that finicky *** Mini 30, thats another story, jams all the time, and misfires a lot, even on different ammo, its had three different springs, all of which appear to wear out, and several firing pins, including a titanium piece that lasted exactly 28 rounds. Can't wait to sell it.

Only 3??? Everytime I go to the range, I take at least 6 out there (usually more)!!! 3 .22 rifles, at least one .22 pistol, Dad's AK47 (It's his pet rifle, he has to shoot it every chance he gets.), and at least one shotgun. But most of the time it's more like 8 or more guns total. TALK ABOUT A CHORE!!!! (LOL) I don't mind the cleaning, if everything's going well. (just kidding) But The shooting part's better. Although I did enjoy cleaning my 30-06 before I tried to sell it (Ended up getting lucky and nobody bought it. Decided to keep it after all.).

Well, I'm going to jump in here at last. I'm not so crazy about the cleaning process, fact is I'd much rather shoot or reload as clean any of the many. The thought of keeping them in the best condition and reliable is the driving force behind maintenance and appreance. Which brings me to the reason I dived into this pool- has anybody tried this new fangled cleaning solution called Hunters Extreme CopperMelt? I saw it in this months Handloader Magazine and went to their website. They make it sound like it's magic. So, just thought I'd see if anybody has used it and has an opinion.

I havent tried the stuff you're talking about. I use Flitz Metal polish. it's the blue paste, and it works WONDERS on a gun. THey have a liquid cleaner too, but I use the paste. Believe me it does GOOD. I've also Tried some stuff called Blue Wonder. It works well, but it's a pain to use. You'll see what I mean if you read the directions on the back of the tube. You may want to check that Flitz out. Here's the link.

I like handling and cleaning guns as much as shooting them. I never go to a "range", I just go outside. My wife hates me to shoot in the house. She insists on outside.
