I need help locating a heavy contour barrel for a Rem 700 long action in .30-06. I tried some websites but they don't have it since the switch to .308 it seems.
Or just I just take it to a gunsmith and let him take care of it?

I have a Choate stock for it already and I want to turn it into a accurate shooter but the thin barrel is not working for me since I want to take follow up shots rather than waiting a while for the barrel to cool down.
Any advice or recommendations will be appreciated.
Thanks.

If you're looking for accuracy you won't be able to use a drop-in. You might get by with a short-chambered barrel but you'd still have to finish the chamber. Any of the barrel makers can provide you with a barrel. I've had good luck with Shilen barrels. For short-chamber barrels try Brownells or Midway.

Your best bet is to have a gunsmith true up the action and fit a barrel.

Viewing a Bergara Barrels website, I understand that they are manufacturing and offering a REM 700 barrel that uses a barrel nut system like the Savage for head spacing....Has anyone else seen this or have any information about a system like this for the Remington?.......The selection of calibers offered on the website was very limited.....Do any of the other barrel manufactures offer something like this?....And do you guys think there is any merit to making a changeover like this?.....The reason I ask is I have a 700 that is due for a barrel change and if I could due it myself without a lathe and chamber reamer would really be a plus......The barrel nut may be ugly but I think the benefits for me would be worth it....Any thoughts or advice will be appreciated...

Thanks,
Randy
