1886 mag tube
I just dis-assembled a vintage 1886, much caked on crud. There are some variations. The mag tube cap may have a "tab" that fits in a slot on the barrel. The tube should turn easily after screw removals, mine did not. I applied penetrating oil to the hanger ahead of the forestock and the forestock cap. After that I rotated and twisted it out without using a lot of force. Mine was really caked in with crud. You twist the hanger in front of the forestock to remove it from the barrel.
