Angry Savage 110 action screw too short for Bell and Carlson stock

I bought a Bell and Carlson stock for may Savage 110. It dropped right in, but the front action screw is too short in to actually screw into the action in the new stock. I had a similar problem with a Boyd's, so I just opened the hole a bit to allow the screw to sink in further. Problem is, on the B&C stock, there is a steel ring inserted at the opening of the hole, and I can't grind the hole any deeper because of the ring.

Has any one else had this problem? Did the Savage 110 front action screws used to be longer? What's the deal? Any suggestions on what I should do?

How much trouble would it be to go to a local gunsmith and see if he might have a screw of sufficient length? Doubt with the thread pitch you could find one at the local hardware, but it may be possible. I'm just not sure what the thread and bolt size is on the Savage.

The steel insert is what is called "pillar bedding" sleeves that B & C put in to assure the stock wouldn't be crushed by overtightening the action screws. This used to be a problem on wooden stocks that became saturated with oil and would soften. Don't believe the synthetic stocks will have this problem, but bless them for putting them in anyway.

Actually, it's not a full pillar in the stock, as far as I can tell. It's just a thin steel ring that sits in the mouth of the hole in the bottom of the stock. No doubt it serves the purpose of preventing overtightening, but it doesn't give all the nifty benefits of a true pillar.

I went to my local fastener shop that sells all kinds of bolts and screws and thousands of other fasteners. Oh by the way I took the Action bolt with me so they could match it up . Cant remember what the thread is but I believe the bolt was 1/4 in.
Could of been 1/4 20 thread
